You would think people would know by now that leaving young children home alone is not okay. Toddlers simply can't be trusted, and if you want to at least attempt to keep them safe and alive and prevent your home from being destroyed you better find a babysitter or take them where you're going.
Still, nearly every day in cities and towns across the country, people leave their small children behind while they go off and do whatever they do. Frighteningly, most of them probably don't get caught, and just get lucky. Those who do get caught typically don't offer up apologies but excuses -- really lame excuses. Here are five of the most outrageous ones people have given for leaving toddlers home alone.

I can not even believe a parent could be so selfish and stupid. Parents like this should have their kids taken away and then they should be sterilized. I can not even leave my little one asleep in the house while I walk to the mailbox, 50 ft. away. I feel so sorry for these kids and others like them. It seems like some kids can't even get a good start at life to help them grow into responsible adults. Its know wonder this world is in the shape it is. How can they learn to be responsible, if they never see it? So sad!
I leave my boys home alone for about 20 minutes, depending on how long it takes for their sister's bus to get to the stop and for us to walk back. I am about 300 yards away if you take the sidewalk and about 100 yards away if you cut across the playground/field/neighbor's side yard. My boys are 7 and 5 and in my State there is no minimal age requirement for being home alone, but I would not leave them for any long then to go get their sister off the bus. By the way they get dropped off at our door at 3pm and she get dropped off at the corner at 3:25-3:35pm So I have time to set up a snack and a show for the boys, half the time they don't even miss me.
Unfortunatly, this is not new. About 30 years ago, the birth mother of my son was around 18 months old when her mother left her home alone in her crib, while she went down the street to have sex with her boyfriend. (note she was MARRIED to her daughters father). She was caught when her MIL came over and found the girl home alone. And yes, she lost custody of her daughter.
WTF! I couldnt stop shaking my head the entire time what in the world is wrong with these people!!! I have a 1 and 2 yr old and they cry if Im in the other room. The other day they were taking a nap and I walked outside to talk to my dad while he smoked and my 2 yr old woke up and was terrified that he couldnt find me. I could only imagine these poor children at home alone I mean how scared they must have been to begin with but what if they fell and got hurt my 1 yr old is constantly falling and looking at me to tell her shes ok or pick her up if she gets hurt and what if God forbid something really bad happened? The kids walking across the highway really got me I couldnt imagine thats just so awful. Thank God all these kids were ok physically but these parents are something else I mean to screw the neighbor, shoes, STRIPPERS??? I hope his wife left him for that one!
