A 2-year-old was killed by her own family members this weekend -- reportedly from an exorcism ritual gone horribly wrong. The family was supposedly heavily involved in the occult and had been convinced that the toddler girl was possessed. The parents, six other family members, and a maid subjected the girl to an exorcism ritual that lasted some 20 hours.
An uncle of the girl had noticed the household disappear into a room at 2:00 a.m. Neighbors noticed family members praying and burning red packets in front of the house earlier. But by the time someone finally called the police and help arrived, it was too late. Some of the family members were found restraining the child with their entire bodies and the girl had suffocated.
This tragedy took place in Malaysia, but the parents were middle-class educated people. The father of the toddler is an engineer for a multinational company and the mother is an alternative medicine practitioner. How did they get in so deep with a spiritual practice that would lead them to kill their own child? Or that a child could be possessed in the first place? It's so odd that eight family members and their maid were involved in this.

Those of us who have lived with a 2-year-old know they can be exasperating and willful. They're irrational and they throw tantrums -- and sometimes we're not even sure what they're so upset about. But of all the horrific cases of abuse, this has to be the weirdest lens I've seen anyone use to interpret a toddler's bratty behavior. Possessed? You've got to be kidding me.
You don't need an exorcism to manage your 2-year-old. You don't need to burn candles and you don't need a special ritual. You just need patience, empathy, and love. I'm so sorry these parents couldn't see their daughter for who she was, just a typical toddler.
What's the most frustrated you've ever been with a toddler?

wow...my middle child had horrible behavioral issues begginning at 1.5 yrs...and i have to say i was feeling VERY alone and almost crazy that i was the only one to see how bad his behaviors could be at such a young age.. and i reached out to others- lucky for me to other people who could point me in proper directions.. not like this family who was pointed into a wrong direction for their toddler. my own child suffered from early-onset bi-polar.. not possession. :( maybe their child had similar issues and now is gone because the proper people werent reached out to.. :(
To be fair, the child could have been exhibiting seizures or other neurological issues that could be confused for something else. I'm guessing it was more than the "terrible twos." While I certainly don't condone this family's actions and response to what they perceived as possession, I also don't condemn them. I believe this family did what they felt was right and are grieving the loss of their little girl. They didn't want to kill her; they wanted to help her. They were just so, so misguided.
This is sad by all means that a child was killed...but you people that are saying things about God and the bible should know that enough that people do get possessed. I'm not saying this child was. But for 7 members of the family to be involved...something was going! Just saying.
The kids is two. It's their job to test the limits and drive you to the edge of sanity. lol Poor baby. :(
I always say my 2 year old needs and exorcism but wow never meant it for real some people should not be able to breed
I'm gunna say this for all you judgemental people out there stop. Their culture is super different than ours. So sitting there saying I wouldnt do that doesnt mean its not socially normal in an other country. This is murder dont get me wrong but but take your heads out of the clouds and make show some hulimility. Now to the question posed. My two year old drives me nuts on a daily basis. By the time dad gets home I have to hand them off so I can get a break. Possessed no normal toddler yeah.
