I get misty-eyed sometimes when I go through pictures of my son when he was just a toddler. Those sweet chubby cheeks, that feathery hair, his little ways. But there is one thing I have absolutely no nostalgia for: The messes. We had some gigantic toy disasters, especially after play dates. But as parents of young devils know, the messes can get a lot deeper than that. And a lot harder to clean up.
Take a walk down memory lane as we recall some of the worst toddler-made disasters in our lives.
That time she poured baby powder all over everything. That time he got into your glitter. The toilet paper bonanza of 2009. Or that fateful day when you thought it might be fun to paint together. Ha! It was not. SIGH. Aren't you glad you didn't have to clean up these messes?

The worst would be the combination of diaper cream and baby powder all over my daughters bedroom carpet, a close 2nd when she knocked over a can of wall paint and it got on the carpet. Then my Son came along and while I was vaccuuming upstairs he snuck downstairs, plugged the bathroom sink and left the tap on and was back upstairs next thing I know my bathroom and hallway are flooded. My son's 2nd place would be when he got ahold of his sister's craft paint dumped it on his little foam couch and layed in it and rubbed it all over himself.
Nothing was worse than when my youngest dd got into the destin diaper cream. That stuff is soo hard to get rid of.
My favorite mess is when my sister went through a squeeze bottle faze and wanted to squeeze any condiments she could get her hands on. One wintry day, my mom let the cat back in the house and noticed that it's fur looked weird. When she petted it big chunks of fur broke off. Here my sister had covered the cat in maple syrup and then let it outside, where it's fur froze. That cat eventually ran away (I wonder why?)
It didn't snow last winter. I wanted the kids to see snow. I read somewhere that if you get the crystal things from the insides of clean diapers it looks like snow. So I cut like half a bag of diapers open and mixed it with water to make snow, and put it in a tub for my 3yr old and the 2yr old I was watching to touch. I didn't think that one through it got everywhere and was hard to clean up as well. It was sort of my fault for making it, and at least they had fun.
My daughter dumped clumping cat litter in her fish tank!!
When my son was around 3 he was a big fan of coloring on the walls. No matter what we did to get him to stop, he would always manage to sniff out the one crayon or marker we missed and go to work on the white living room walls. After my (now ex) husband finished repainting the wall he went down to throw in a load of laundry, and in the 5 minutes he was gone our son managed to locate an orange crayon and go to town on the freshly painted wall.
It was one of the only times I saw my ex cry, and it still makes me giggle to this day (10 years later)
BAH! Amateurs !!! Except....kudos to the little station wagon tar painting kid. Somewheres around 30 yrs. ago now, there was a couple in the state of Washington who had?? 7 kids..I don't even know what that's called. Well when they were toddlers, Mom takes a back-yard-chat-break with the neighbor, believing the little darlings are secured in the family room corral....no such luck. They escaped, pulled out a large bottle of cooking oil from a lower cupboard and proceeded to spill it all over, so naturally she came in to find 7 skating babies!!! Now I ask you.....where/how would you even begin to clean???? I've never figured that out.
I can't even count all the messes!. The most recent was baby powder. My 4yr old dd decided my 2 yr old ds needed to be powdered. There was powder all over my son, the counters, the floor, the toilet, you name it. DD got into butt cream and put it all over her, that stuff is hard to get out of hair! My ds got into bubblegum and had a big wad of it all over. Husband had fun with that one! Ds played with poop too. I could go on and on!
