8 Messes Made by Toddlers That Make Mommy Want a Drink

toddler paintI get misty-eyed sometimes when I go through pictures of my son when he was just a toddler. Those sweet chubby cheeks, that feathery hair, his little ways. But there is one thing I have absolutely no nostalgia for: The messes. We had some gigantic toy disasters, especially after play dates. But as parents of young devils know, the messes can get a lot deeper than that. And a lot harder to clean up.

Take a walk down memory lane as we recall some of the worst toddler-made disasters in our lives.

That time she poured baby powder all over everything. That time he got into your glitter. The toilet paper bonanza of 2009. Or that fateful day when you thought it might be fun to paint together. Ha! It was not. SIGH. Aren't you glad you didn't have to clean up these messes?

LOL!!!

my fuzzy memory is when my oldest DD (who's now 8) was only about 2 1/2. my mil had a fish tank at the time - a large, 25 gallon one. well, DD comes and tells me & mil that the "fishies wanted choc-a-mil"... to return to the living room and find half a bottle of chocolate sauce squirted in the fish tank! poor fishes!!! cleaning that tank was a total birch, but i laugh at it now... :)

I went to check on my 2 year old a few months ago while she was suppose to be napping, and found her with a tube of diaper cream that she had squirted all over the floor and her dresser, and was finger painting with on the front of her armoir. :-/

Two words: Moon Sand. Worst kids toy ever invented. Guaranteed to make a horrible mess every time a kid plays with it. Don't even think about buying it as a birthday present unless you really hate the kid's parents.

Dry dog food. In a series of small piles through the kitchen. Because she wanted to help feed the dog.

Eh... I would take any of these messes over the poop smear mess my firstborn left me at 2.5yrs old. It was all over the bathroom, the hallway, and his room, and him, too!

When my oldest daughter was 2 .. she had gotten into the kitchen and gotten into the chocolate sauce.. I had milk and chocolate sauce on my kitchen, my living room, my sleeping son, the couch, the wall, the floors, the TV, the dog.. it was also my birthday, Nevertheless we spent birthday money on steam cleaning and while she's 7 now, I've not allowed chocolate sauce in the house since.

My tot poured his brothers formula in the carpet this morning and because of the humidity it is clumped up and glued into the carpet. I still don't know what I'm going to do about it

Our grandson, when he was about 2 or 3, he absconded with the can of parmesan cheese and spread it all over his bedroom carpet.  My wife laughed when she was told about it and reminded our daughter of her own escapades.

I'm currently sitting outside trying to relax. I am SO over this evening's cleanup. My kids just DO NOT clean. How do you get a 2 yr old and 4 yr old to clean? What do you do if they say no? I am soooo tired of them flat out refusing. And to top it off, they don't even help, they destroy another room while I'm cleaning one mess. They DON'T play, they simply destroy. Ok. End rant. Suggestions? :)

I have been luck so far (knock on wood) my son is just 22 months.  I however have astory about my niece when she was about 3.  I'm not sure where her mother was possibly upstairs changing baby brother.  Any way she decided she wanted jello.  Got the box out opened it proceeded to dump it on the counter, in her mother's purse & all over the floor.  Trying to be good she tried to clean it up so of course added water to it.  Red counter, floor and all over in my sister in laws purse sticky, wet, red mess.  It stained the floor and counter & I am sure the inside of the purse and anything it came incontact in the purse (including the checkbook).
