10 Gifts Moms REALLY Want for the Holidays

by Jill Smokler on December 12, 2011 at 8:04 AM

christmas presents

My husband is notorious for getting me gifts which I inevitably end up returning. Since becoming a mother, my gift-desires are just entirely different than they used to be. Expensive perfume? No thank you. Fancy handbag? Eh. Nice Jewelry? Maybe next year.

What do I really want?

Read on ...

1. Not to be woken up. Just let me sleep in as long as I want. For once.

2. Not to play referee. I’ve never much enjoyed sports, anyway. And I could really use a day off from breaking up fights and dolling out punishments.

3. Not to help with schoolwork.

4. Not to wipe an ass. (Other than my own.)

5. Not to bathe children.

6. Not to drive. A break from playing chauffeur sounds dreamy.

7. Not to think about dinner. It’s one of the first things I think about every day and it’s frequently greeted by yucks and ewwws. From everyone. Let's make it a pizza night.

8. Not to clean or straighten the house.

9. Not to be in charge of bedtime. Yes, I love snuggling with the kids, but a break from the endless pleas for more stories and songs would be nice for a night.

10. Not to discipline. Being the good guy for a change? Priceless.

Not to change the empty toilet paper roll after someone else leaves the bathroom.

Not to get up in the morning and be greeted by a messy kitchen because people "graze" during the night.

Not having to wrangle stray socks left behind by the males in my home for just one day.

Without intending to sound like I'm bragging, but I don't really have to complain about any of these problems. My husband works from home so he does tha cleaning and most of the cooking. Our daughter is not an early riser, which benefits the both of us. One kid, so no being referee. She's 7, so no wiping asses. I don't mind driving her around or helping her with homework. So I think I WILL take that handbag you're turning down (that is something I DO need this year!)

2 things~~~ #1 that my kids slept til 630, not to much to ask for really, 530am is getting REAL old. #2 an hour massage every 3 months, my job + kids makes my back tired : ), or I can actually get in shape again?!

Wow, all of those are so true! Another thing I would love for the holidays as a gift? Some uniterrupted time to do something for me. Sit on the porch and read a grown up book, play guitar, ride my horse for fun (not work), bake cookies (pie, cake, ect) and get to actually eat more then one of it.

An explanation as to why no matter what I serve for breakfast, lunch or dinner, my son declares it gross! LOL!

I've been wishing for some non lethal, curable infection or something for a while so I could spend a few days in the hospital as a vacation...lol! Seriously, order from a plethora of food, watch cable, and sleep non stop. O and a morphine drip would be a nice bonus...sounds like heaven.

Simply put a maid would be wonderful! A nanny would be appreciated, and 4 children that got along would be a miracle. Overall all I want for Christmas is to be with my family. To love my babies and cherish every moment I get. I know sleeping in isn't an option when the oldest is six and Santa is on his way!
