I got a call from my son's pre-school today. It appears the class biter went Mike Tyson on the poor kid and he's got a bite of a mark on his ear. Yep, went straight for the ear. Nice strategy, that biting kid has, if I do say so myself. Especially since I'm guessing s/he was just dodging a punch thrown by my kid -- the hitter.
Apparently it's an all-out brawl at the nursery school, and today the round went to the biter. But I'm not worried, my little hitter will come back swinging -- literally. Is it horrible that my first reaction after hearing that a) he was okay, and b) there was no blood was "He probably deserved it"? Sorry, buddy. I love you more than life itself, but that's what happens when you go head-to-head with a biter.
In fact, I think if you did look at who has the upper hand in various pre-school match-ups between those who hit and those who use their teeth, it might look something like this:
Face-to-Face
This match could easily go to the hitter. After all he's got his arms in front of him pushing hard. The biter won't be able to get past the fists.
Side-by-Side
The biter has the clear advantage in this situation. There will be blood. Oh, there will be blood.
Biter Behind Hitter
Unless the hitter has been trained in martial arts (note to self, train boy in martial arts), the biter has the sneak attack move. I'm guessing this is how s/he got my little guy's ear.
Hitter Behind Biter
This could go either way. The hitter could shove the biter, but the biter could spin and catch the hitter off-guard. Also, the biter could turn when hearing the whoosh of a coming fist and bite the fist. That would be kind of badass.
Naptime Position
This one really has more to do with who is the lighter sleeper. Duh.
Cage Match
This is where the biter could really shine. One good chunk out of a body part and the hitter is going down ... and has nowhere to go.
So basically if you're going to have a kid who acts out physically, hope for a biter. They clearly can kick serious butt, and ear.
Do you have a biter or a hitter?

This is so funny :) My son was the wrestler when he was in preschool. He would wrangle any one who went near the ride on Fire truck. The teacher use to be concerned if he wasn't aggressive because it meant he wasn't feeling well. Love it. :)
I had the biter... but it was just a phase all the kids in the class went through, all at once. Seemed like everyday I was getting little notes, Autumn bit so and so on the such and such. Autumn was bitten somewhere by somebody. I saved a lot of those little "accident reports" to show her when she gets older!
LOL! I'm blessed I guess, my son is a negotiator! No hitting, no biting, but he can argue, coerce, con, convince any kid out of anything (or into anything). We have been and probably always will have to, put a ton of effort into teaching him to use his "skills" in a positive way! So I love hearing him trade negotiate for a better toy (but this fire truck is way better, look, its wheels are super shiny! And it goes way faster then your tractor) or talking some kid into remembering to cover their mouth when they sneeze, or politely explaining that taking the firetruck is mean an hurts his feelings, but if they run and get him the tractor he will trade :P
Now, heres to hoping as a teen he uses these skills for good! And not for talking cute girls into naughty things..... scary!
Mine's a thrower-just two nights ago I about got knocked out when a metal car when flying through the living room and landed squarely on top of my head....lots of tears on Mommy's part.
He was both when he was younger. He's given up the biting and just now hits. >.<
haha. My older daughter bit a couple of times, and my younger daughter has'nt so far (knock on wood) But there was a girl in my older daughters preschool who bit her right in the middle of the stomach. How she got at that angle I will never know, but it left a scar, so she must have gotten a good grip on there.
My daughter isn't usually physical, but boy can she manipulate!
I remember when I was in preschool, a boy held me down and bit my back!
My mom was so mad that she took me to the boy's house and showed his mom. His mom must have busted his ass because he aplolgized the next day.
I hope I never have to be the mom that has to deal with another mom because my kid bit them!
