The Kids Are Away, So Why Can't I Play?

A while ago you and I were talking about how hard it is to get even a few minutes of alone time with toddlers around. Well, I've been single and childless for 3 days now. My husband and two kids are away visiting family for 10 days, and I'm all by myself. I'd honestly forgotten what it was like to have this much time and freedom on my hands.

So, you'd think I'd be taking it easy and living it up, right? Going for walks, renting movies, sleeping late, catching up with friends, right? Well, nope. The exact opposite.

I've been working harder than ever! On Saturday, one of the few mornings that I'll ever have to sleep in (for the foreseeable future), I popped awake at 6:30 a.m. I spent all day Saturday cleaning my very dirty house (with a sense of great satisfaction, I might add), and most of Sunday doing errands. I've yet to get together with one friend or take a walk. I did sneak in some tube time, only because I was so beat from my chores that I needed a few minutes off my feet!

I wonder if it's just me, or is it that once we become moms, we just can't shake the role, even temporarily. Have you had any substantial time off from your motherly duties, and if so, how did you spend your time? If your family went away for a few days, what would you do with your new-found freedom?
