They say youth is wasted on the young, and for once, "they" are right. This thought stuck me as I made the announcement that it was bedtime a few nights ago at 8:30 p.m. The announcement was met with shrill screams and feet stomping, by all three of my children. I mean, really, what the hell? They have clean, comfortable rooms. They've been on the go all day long. It's bed, not prison. I think I might drop dead of happiness if someone forced me into bed before 10 o'clock at night. It got me thinking of all the things they fight that I would love ...
1. Having my hair shampooed. The kids scream bloody murder when I shampoo their hair. When my hair is washed at the salon, I have to restrain myself from stuffing dollar bills in the shampooer's pockets just to keep her going a few minutes longer. Why the big fight?
2. Having my toenails cut. It's called a pedicure and I pay good money for it. There is simply no reason to carry on like I am actually pulling out your toenails.
3. Being given clothes. When my kids are gifted with clothes, they moan and whine. God forbid I actually pick out an outfit for them. I recently had my closet taken over and it's the best thing ever. I don't ever want to go back to dressing myself.
4. Eating home-cooked meals. It's a complete and utter joy to be cooked for. I mean, it almost never happens, but when it does, I feel like the luckiest girl out there.
5. Being told to nap or have quiet time. I mean, seriously. On the rare occasion when I'm able to nap, I feel like a new person. Naps are a wonderful, wonderful thing. And quiet time? I dream of quiet time.

Perfect! I pick up 95 - 100% of my sons messes, when he has to pick up just ONE, it takes about an hour. I wish someone would come clean up after me 95% of the time. Maybe I'd have time for that "horrible" pedicure.
Yesterday I asked my 5 year old to pick up HIS trains and coloring books off of our kitchen table. Half way through he started pouting that it was too hard and he needed help. I handed him my grocery list and told him to make a list of everything I needed to buy today and my calendar and told him to plan my week. He looked at me for about 5 seconds then handed my list back to me and cleared the table quietly.
YES! I would love any one of those (the nap is looking really good!) but my kids kick and scream over them! I wish I could tell them in 20 years, they'll be wishing the had those days back!
telling them it's time to clean their rooms...... bedtime....... the meals I make (most of the time they're really good about eating them)... wanting a different snack than the one I bring home on occasion.......
I want a maid... a decent bedtime, meals cooked for me, and someone to just buy me a snack they know I'll like just because they love me!!!!!!! lol
"Go spend some time reading a book." they look at me as if I just grounded them for life. What I wouldn't give for an hour, uninterrupted in which I catch up with my reading.
You forgot time-outs. I would love if someone told me "go to your room and don't talk to anyone for one hour." Oh, the bliss of alone time. Great list though.
This is so true...I love it! I wish someone would cook my food for me, and cut it into nice bite sized pieces...do my dishes, run my bath water, wash my clothes! I could sit here for a long time and think about things that I do, but would be more than willing to let others take over! lol
time outs!
pls oh pls send me to my roon for a time out!!! i NEED the peace and quiet!! hahaha
All true expect the cutting nails and the home cooked meals. My toddler enjoys it and doesn't make a big deal. Shampooing his hair is like murder!!
