A mom who named who her daughter Miley, before Miley Cyrus became the international superstar and pop culture phenomenon, is irritated. But not as much as her little Miley, who is looking for a name change after teasing has gotten the best of her.
I get how she feels, a little bit. I learned about the Twilight (another phenomenon) series via the gmail ads after I'd sent pictures of my daughter, Esme, to some family members. "Are You Esme Cullen?" the tag line read, linking me to a quiz on which Twilight character I must be given my answers questions about personality quirks.
I don't hate Twilight, I just haven't enjoyed the books or seen the movies. (But I have seen enough to know that I'm glad I didn't name my daughter Bella.) And still, I'm a little bit afraid that some people think I named my daughter after a teen vampire story because I'm one of those obsessed fans.
As Lindsay Lohan sues because everyone knows she is the only Lindsay, I feel bad for all those moms who named their baby girls before the teen actress exploded into the self-destructive 20-something that we do all think about when we hear "Lindsay."
And I imagine Michael Jackson even had some regrets about naming his daughter Paris once Miss Hilton became the talk of the town for her skanky, intoxicated behavior.
Like the Elvises of yesteryear, kids with famous names will be compared to their celebrity namesake, and sometimes cruelly. I'm just crossing my fingers that no famous Judahs decide to make a worldwide splash in the next 18 years.
Did a celebrity ruin your child's name?

i named my baby Vincent AKA Vinny BEFORE i realized there is this huge *jersey shore* phenom, with a Vinny on there. but at least I didn't name him the situation, so i think it's fine. ;)
Im a little confused how is it Twilight's fault that your daughter Miley gets teased for her name? If anything you could change the way her name is pronounced so instead of Miley it could be pronounced like Milie ( and you can keep the spelling the same)
No, not yet at least! You don't hear the name Garrett much ;)

The author's daughter isn't named Miley. She understands how another mom whose daughter's name is Miley is irritated. The author's daughter is Esme, a character's name in Twilight and the author doesn't want people to think she is obsessed with the movie Twilight.
I named my daughter Kiera (from a tv series called Reba but they spelled the name Kyra). But I didn't know who Keira Knightly was back then and so now I wish I would have spelled her name Keira instead of Kiera b/c it always gets mispelled now.
So, instead, you'll come here and complain about it bothering someone else - great solution!
There's are twins in my son's preschool class name Bella and Edward (and don't you dare call him Eddie). From the look of his parents (very goth), this was done intentionally. I'm not up on the Vampire fad, though, so I'm not sure what movie or show they are from.
Who cares if someother charter or person in hollywood has the same name as your child! We named our oldest Kira. Its pronounced just as Keira Knightly or Kiera on Reba but we never knew untill later on. And our youngest is named Mia. Same name as the sister in the fast and the furious with Vin desiel. Who cares?? Names are just names! Its how they act not how they are named. If you wanna be mad at someone be mad at yourself for thinking its everyone elses fault wehn your the one who thought of it that way!! LIFE GOES ON!!!!
Nope. My daughter's name is Cali Rae. And my son's name is Hunter Cole. I pick a name simply because I love it. They are uniquely my children's name no matter if 100,000 other kids have the same (just an example).
Nah. My first child got named an extremely popular name without me realizing that it WAS popular, so I doubt there will ever be an celebrity influence over that- it's just to common now. And with my second... well I highly doubt that it will get picked up. But if it does, he'll be a head of the wave.
