It's not often a father saves his child's life at the zoo.
That's exactly what happened on Wednesday in Germany as a 3-year-old scaled the fence at the Eifel Zoo. Unfortunately what was on the other side was a ticked off Asian Bear.
The little girl climbed over the fence and dropped into a moat surrounding the bear's habitat. Before her father could jump over himself, the bear swiped the girl's head, but she is expected to be okay.
The father fared much worse.
The bear did go after the father and injured his leg. Fortunately the father was able to get his toddler out, and himself before the story could take an even worse turn. The 34-year-old dad is expected to make a full recovery.
It's unclear whether the zoo is responsible for this accident, or if it was a seriously strong toddler that scaled the fence. As my little boy starts to climb, I could see a very determined boy in a few years that might try to make it over the fence to see the fuzzy animal up close. Which means I'll be holding on to him very tightly at any future zoo visits.
Luckily this story ended happily, even though the dad and toddler are battered and bruised.
Does this make you frightened to take your kids to the zoo?
