Katie Holmes certainly keeps critics of her parenting skills on their toes.
First she's making Suri grow up too fast with all that lipstick.
Then she's holding her back with that bottle.
And now she's already got the 4-year-old in a rigorous homeschooling program.
Katie told New York Mag:
"And we homeschool Suri—she has a teacher who is with her every day. We like the one-on-one education. I’m happy that my daughter is strong-willed and determined. You really have to go with what the child is wanting."
Criticize her all you want. I'm with Katie on this one. If your kid loves education, let them dive into learning.
Yes, even at 4.
My daughter started a two-days a week preschool program at 3, moving up to three days a week at 4. It changed her for the better.
Although Suri doesn't have the out-of-the-house advantages of socialization with homeschooling, even an in-house program with a different teacher offers your child their first taste of learning from someone other than Mom or Dad.
And with headstrong little kids (Suri, my daughter), their learning can suddenly take off when they're no longer fighting their inate need to buck Mom and Dad's authority.
My daughter had the capacity to learn, but with our similar personalities, I'll admit traditional homeschooling was never going to work for us. A different teacher can make all the difference for your toddler -- whether it's in the home or out.
Do your kids challenge themselves more with other adults?
