Mom Confessions: Drinking Makes Me a Better Mother

Suzanne Murray

mommy needs her wineIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession

"Every day I chase my 3-year-old around the house, fight with him over what he's going to wear that day, plead with him to eat something, clean up endless messes and spills, listen to the same silly song for an hour straight -- you get the idea. I never hit him or raise my voice no matter how over the edge he pushes me. How do I keep my sanity? Every night at around 5 p.m. I start drinking. I have a few glasses of wine and the stress just melts away. Instead of ripping my hair out (or worse, his), I can be happy nighttime mommy and give him a bath, read him some books, and put him to bed. I really don't think I could do it without the wine. It helps me be a better mom." -- Anonymous
