Flickr photo by AlishaVEarth Day is nearly upon us, and green activities are high on the agenda for time with my toddler.
Inspired by one of my favorite crafty blogs, Make and Takes, I've been hitting up my recycling bins for our art supplies this week.
Along with Dollar Store Crafts, they're challenging families to create a "work of art" with one or more of the following supplies:
- paper tube
- egg carton
- plastic containers
Considering egg cartons in my neck of the woods are that awful non-recyclable Styrofoam, I'm aiming to have my daughter make something out of our most recently emptied container this weekend -- at least it will fulfill my goal of reusing as much of our non-recyclables as possible.
I have a few ideas in mind -- cut the lid off, let her paint the tray of egg cups and use it as a bus for her LEGO men? A holder for her "jewels"?
If we get it done by the 20th, I might even snap a photo and send it in to Make and Takes -- they're going to be choosing their favorites to feature on their sites in these categories:
- best use of a paper tube
- best use of a egg carton
- best use of a plastic container
- most colorful
- most functional
Feel free to enter their contest, but let us know in comments here what you created, so we can try it out with our tots!
