There is no doubt that teenagers tend to get a bad rap. Between the bullying and the weird YouTube videos and the drug use and the sassiness, most parents of children dread the day our precious babies turn 13. But there are some teens who make us realize things aren't really as bad as they might seem.

Maddie is a senior in high school, and in a story that is floating around Facebook this week, it's revealed that she went to the parents of Jon, a junior, and asked them if she could take their son to prom. She chose this way because Jon is autistic. “He’s a junior,” she explained to Jon's mom. “So it’s his prom too. I just think he should have the chance to go.”

Cue the tears. Apparently the two met through a group that pairs teens with special needs with kids like Maddie and she took a special liking to Jon. What a moving story.

Remember that  “wait three days to call” rule? Well, I’ve always hated it. It’s immature and, let’s be honest, I just plain hated waiting. I don’t like games. I didn’t want to be chased and I didn’t want to chase anyone else. I always felt that it made more sense to just let someone know you were interested. I absolutely hated waiting for the phone to ring. The guys I dated all held steadfast to the dating "rules", which basically meant they'd call in three to five days. I adhered to the if you wait more than three days, I'm not answering rule. We were at an impasse, as you can clearly see.

Not all surprises are good ones. No one knows that better than a woman in a relationship. I have a friend who met and married the so-called man of her dreams within six months. A year later, he dropped a major bombshell -- he had been married before. Even more shocking: He had been married twice before. For whatever reason, it never previously came up. That was probably just as much her fault as it was his. She clearly didn't ask enough questions. But sometimes, nothing can compare us for the crap that comes out of their mouths. Check out the 15 things a woman never wants to hear her man say.

Guys have a saying: Bros before hos. But women don't really have an equivalent. There is really nothing worse than your BFF starting a relationship with a guy you can't stand. You know you're cooked. Your friend isn't going to break up with the guy just because you don't like him. In fact, she's going to make your life miserable by complaining about him to you all of the time. I wonder if it was this kind of scenario that supposedly made Katy Perry drop her raunchy BFF like a hot piece of steaming dog doo after she got back together with Chris Brown. Reportedly, the two had a falling out because Katy didn't approve of Chris. But Katy must have come around, because she and Rihanna have been flirting via Twitter.

When it comes to dating, we women have all sorts of deal-breakers. I have a friend who won't date a guy if he smokes certain cigarette brands. Odd, right? It's not the fact that he smokes that irks her, but rather which ones. Well, to each her own, I say. I have certainly had my fair share of reasons for turning a guy down. I'll never forget one relationship that crashed and burned for something I never saw coming.

One spring day, I happened to meet a guy I'll call Mike. By all superficial appearances, Mike seemed great. He was cute, witty, and most importantly, seemed really into me. I thought, "Jackpot!" Even better, he said he was studying to be a chef. How cool is that? Things started off well enough. Our dates were fun, sweet outings along the lines of picnics or hitting matinees. I thought, "What an old-school romantic." Well, that's what I thought anyway. Turns out, our sun-filled, afternoon dates were hiding a deep, dark secret.

Despite what has become a common belief, most women don't really find boyfriends in bars. In fact, according to a study by Match.com, only 7 percent of all bar hoppers will come across a relationship-worthy guy while grabbing a cocktail. So what in the world are the rest of us to do? You can look online or be set up by friends, but many people have found love in some unexpected places. I have a friend who met her husband at a gas station on her way to work one morning. As she stood at the pump, a guy came up to her and said she was the most beautiful woman in the world and that he was going to marry her some day. He was right! Two years later, he did. I will admit, it was a bit unusual, but love at first sight can happen when you least expect it. Check out 20 surprising places you can find the man of your dreams.

Aww! Former Bachelor and Bachelor Pad star Michelle Money is switching things up and trying her hand at matchmaking -- by attempting to find a woman for Chris Harrison on Facebook.

Yep, she thinks it's about time the host of all the Bachelor-related shows moved on with his life and found a nice girl to settle down with, so she's created a Facebook page where women can "apply" to be his bride.

Seriously -- the page is called "The search for the future Mrs. Chris Harrison Michelle Money approved."

"Papa Don't Preach" -- oh, the delicious irony! Madonna's kids may get to sing along onstage at their mama's show, but at home, it's another story -- especially for Madonna's 16-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Supposedly Madonna has been the heavy, making sure Lourdes took her studies seriously. Now it's her dad's turn to play bad cop.

A friend of Lourdes' dad, Carlos Leon, says that now that she's dating Homeland actor Timothee Chalamet, Leon has set up strict curfews and rules. He's also asking Timothee all those embarrassing questions dads ask their daughters' boyfriends. Well, good for him! Lourdes should be glad he cares.

Breakups suck. OK, that's an understatement. Breakups make you feel like scum. No matter whose "fault" it is, you walk away feeling empty and without that sense of companionship. You walk away feeling totally alone, even when there are hundreds of people walking by you on the street. You wonder what your ex is doing. Who they're with. If that person that you woke up to every Sunday for what feels like forever is thinking about you when they're eating lunch in the park.

Then the reality hits: It's over. At least for now, you're single.

Single. It's a weird realization. This notion of freedom pops into your head wielding this large metal sword trying to battle off those nasty feelings of loneliness. Then you think: Because I'm single, I should, like -- go out, right?

So what's a single lady to do? Make a bucket list. With time, the pain will ease. And when it does, you'll need to get out there. You effin' deserve it. Thus I present you with 20 things every single girl should do:

Most guys have a type. Whether it's blond or brunette, petite or curvy, sporty or sophisticated, men go after their type, swoop in, and hope to score.

Granted, for some guys, their type is pretty much any woman who will actually have a conversation with them. But that's an article for another day...

The thing is, guys are pretty clear about the kind of woman they want to date, but at some point they'll meet "the one." She may not even be their usual type at first, which could actually be the cause for the insatiable fascination and infatuation.
