Talk about a great commencement speaker! Jim Carrey gave an epic commencement speech at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa on Saturday, where the high school drop-out received an honorary degree, giving 2014 graduates heartfelt -- and yes, funny -- words to live by.
Naturally, the comedic actor's speech was rife with jokes and recognizable voices and faces, but at its core, Carrey gave graduates extremely heartfelt advice before they head off into the world ... and parents reassurance that everything they're doing for their kids -- even the unspoken things -- doesn't go unnoticed.
Check out Carrey's must-watch commencement speech:
Pretty fantastic. And his words really resonate for both students and parents. I love when Carrey says: "My father could have been a great comedian, but he didn't believe that was possible for him, so he made a conservative choice and took a safe job as an accountant. When I was 12, he was let go from that safe job, and my family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father. Not the least of which: You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love."
Even though Carrey's father made the "safe" choice, likely for his family, he still was able to teach his child -- whether it was on purpose or not -- to dream big and go after what you're passionate about. Isn't that something we all should do, as parents? Support our kids in their decisions, even if we were too chicken to go after our own dreams?

Love this speech, and love that Jim included his parents' influence over him. It's a great reminder to all of us about just how much of an effect we have over our children.
