Paul Walker's Mom Makes Tough Custody Decision for Her Granddaughter's Sake

paul walker daughter custodyIt's been almost five months since Paul Walker's untimely passing, and the battle for custody of his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow, may have come to an end.

Paul Walker had originally granted guardianship of his daughter to his mother, Cheryl Walker, and had left his entire $16 million fortune to the teen. Just last month, Paul's mother made the official move and filed for guardianship of Meadow. But she has now requested that her petition for guardianship be dismissed, and it could all be for the best.

Paul's entire family, including his mother and daughter, have been grieving his loss for the past several months. On top of that, having to deal with the added drama of Meadow's guardianship would have only put so much more stress on an already fragile situation.

Cheryl was even willing to let the fight go late last month when she offered Rebecca Soteros, Meadow's mother, a phenomenal deal. Soteros, who has been arrested on DUI charges several times, would have to agree to complete rehab in exchange for full custody.

Now it's seeming that the two must have come to an agreement, and it's all in the best wishes of Meadow. She has already lost one parent and needs all the adults in her life, especially her mother and grandmother, to come together and be on the same team.

Putting aside differences and legalities, family members have to support one another, especially the children, through the difficult time of losing a parent. A united family that can stand together and help one another process death and understand the grieving process will only allow everyone to heal.

Agreeing on custody, and making sure that the kids are provided for above everything else, should be everyone's priority. After the death of a loved one and the difficult months that follow, the last thing a child needs is to be put in the middle of an awful guardianship battle.

It's been a tragic year so far for the Walker family, but showing solidarity and stability for Meadow will be in everyone's best interests.

Have you decided who your kids will go to should a tragedy occur? Is everyone on the same page?
