School Bans Girls From Wearing Skinny Jeans Because They're 'Distracting' for Boys

Rant 157

skinny jeansToday in everything that's wrong with the way kids are being raised in America: a junior high school in California has banned wearing skinny jeans, leggings, and yoga pants. Well, actually just girls are banned from wearing tight pants.

The boys? The boys can wear whatever they want ... the new dress code at Kenilworth Junior High is really just about keeping girls from "distracting" those hormonal teenage boys with their tempting gams.

THIS is the kind of thing that makes me want to lock my daughter up in her bedroom and throw away the key.

Not her luscious legs, but the fact that it's still OK to teach a bunch of teenage boys that they just can't help themselves for drooling all over the girls ... and girls are still being taught that it's their jobs to keep the boys in line.

That's really the message that's being sent by the ridiculous dress code at the Petaluma junior high, isn't it? Girls can't wear tight pants not because they've done anything wrong, but because their male classmates are acting like immature little jerks.

You'll have to pardon me for thinking here (after all, I'm just a girl, what do I know?), but wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to sit the boys down for a talk and tell them to cool it? Not only would it save the parents of every girl in the district from having to revamp their kids' wardrobes, but it would prepare the boys for what will happen when they walk out into a dress code-free world where women walk around flaunting bare ankles and even, gulp, showing their knees!

I don't have a son; I have a daughter. In my house, she's being taught to wear clothing that makes her feel comfortable and is "classy," but that's as far as we will go. We aren't going to teach her that she needs to change herself to keep boys in line because, frankly, that's not her job.

That's the boys' jobs ... and more importantly the jobs of the boys' parents. If you have a son, I need you to step up and teach him right from wrong. I need you to teach him to respect women, to teach him that it's not a girl's job to "cover up" so he doesn't get horny ... it's his job to get his hormones under control.

It will make for a much nicer world beyond junior high if you do ...

What do you make of this ban on tight pants for girls?

Oh for fucks sake. Why dont we just go ahead and make girls wear burkas if we are going down this road. What qualifies as "skinny jeans" to the school though? When I think "skinny jean" Its just tight around the calves and ankles instead of a boot cut or straight leg jean. How exactly is lower leg hugging jeans more distracting if a boot cut style still fits around the butt and thighs just the same?

Where does it end? This is getting beyond ridiculous.

This country is slowly heading towards a country like Iraq.

They have to make what seem like ridiculous dress code rules to deal with ridiculous dress. Skinny jeans and leggings wouldn't be an issue if they were worn appropriately.

I completely agree SierraLynn, it is completely ridiculous that "girls" have to cover themselves up. How many of us didnt see/ or don't see the teenage boys without a shirt as they were coming out of the locker room still trying to finish changing for PE and no one told them anything

Another "boys are worth nothing and only want to molest my sweet angel" article from Head Girl Mom Ms. Sager. Don't you ever tire of this, Jeanne? Do you really think your girl won't be checking out a guy's butt in a few years?

It's quite the opposite at my sons school. The girls can wear crotch bearing mini skirts and other questionable clothing, while the boys are not allowed to wear muscle shirts?

At the school I work at, skinny jeans are o.k. but the leggings and Yoga pants are It is mostly because it is easier to say no for everyone, as some girls just don't wear them in appropriate ways. We also dress code for ripped jeans that are 3" above the knee and tank tops or low cutting shirts. For boys we don't allow the saggy jeans showing boxers or tank tops. It's more about teaching kids how to dress appropriately for school. Some times it is over kill, but the amount of kids that push the limits is astounding. I'm shocked parents let their kids out the door dressed like the do.

I wish they would ban skinny jeans for boys they look fucking ridiculous. As soon as a school starts to ban certain items they should just switch over to uniforms.

Part 1: I agree with the school. When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to wear what girls wear today. I looked like a KID and dressed like one. Not one of us had aspirations to look like Miley Cyrus or any of the other teeny bopper princess idols that kids have around today. I loved and looked up to DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron) who dressed like a KID.

Now our girls are overly sexualized at an early age. Our girls our promoted to wear booty shorts! BOOTY SHORTS! We couldn't wear shorts that were higher than our knees until HS. THAN if someone one was dressed provocatively, they were sent to the principal and made to change. Now we deem sexual confidence with being independent and proud. I don't agree. You don't become independent or strong by only being confident in just how you look. ESPECIALLY if you are only getting the wrong attention from boys.

Part 2: But thanks to people like the Kardashians and Snooki and Teen Mom, our girls aren't taught to be intelligent women. They dress like the trends govern. WHY can't we teach our girls to be classy?! Dress appropriately for school!

Other things that need to go leggings. They wear spandex leggings that you can practically see through!N I am sorry I don't want to see anybody's ass cheeks! This includes the boys who wear pants so big we can see your boxers. PULL up them pants! Also, l love fashion. I think that its possible to be classy and not trashy and in trend. Also, if you like it a little trashy, go for it, if your an adult!! Not a KID, in school!End Rant.
