Father Arrested for Tattooing His 14-Year-Old With 'Daddy's Girl'

OMG 61

A man has been arrested for tattooing his 14-year-old daughter's wrist. The father, Victor Shane Scroggins, was allegedly tattooing people -- including his own teen -- without a license. There is just something so creepy and wrong about tattooing your underage daughter -- but even more creepy and wrong is what he chose to ink her with. It wasn't a little bird or a rose. He reportedly tattooed "Daddy's Girl" and -- get this -- the logo of gun manufacturer Browning on her skin. Ewww. So wrong.

The man has been arrested for the tattooing of a minor, unlawful neglect of a child, and not having the required certificate for tattooing people. I have no idea how his daughter felt about the tattoo at the time she got it -- maybe she requested it. But as a parent you have an obligation to think for the child. And a tattoo at 14 is not only illegal -- but something she may regret not only years later, but maybe next week!

And let's think of what he wrote: "Daddy's Girl." Sure, it's a term of endearment -- when it's coming out of your mouth or when an adult chooses to tattoo it on herself. But when your dad does it for you, it just reeks of control and ownership issues. The girl isn't chattel. As an adult, having a gun logo on her skin may lose her some job opportunities. Of course, she could always have it removed, but that is painful and costly.

I asked my mom for a tattoo as this girl's age. At the time, my mom was dating a tattoo artist and I thought he could give it to me. My mom was quite the free spirit but even she said no. "Wait until you're 18, then you can get what you want" was her answer. You know what? By the time I was 18, I didn't want one. I've always been grateful to my mom for having the common sense to say no to that teen demand.

Nor do we know if the child even wanted this tattoo at all. If he suggested it, she may have felt compelled to say she wanted it to be a "good girl." To be "Daddy's girl." Or maybe she can't stand him but was too scared to say, "No thanks, Dad." Who knows!

At any rate, tattooing your own kid is just all kinds of wrong. I hope this guy gets his needles taken away for good -- and gets some parenting classes on top of it.

Do you think anyone should tattoo their teen?

Nobody should tattoo their UNDERAGE teen, but 18, 19 & above, sure.

But never tattooing their child with something like "daddys girl" simply because he is her father? Youre being idiotic.

Being unliscenced and tattooing a 14yr old are the problem, not the tattoo itself.

At 15 I tried to get a tattoo from a fellow teenager with a gun made from a CD player, a sewing needle, and ballpoint pen ink. Seriously. I think it was going to say Nirvana. Thank God it hurt like hell and only had a teeny line done before I wussed out. I managed to squeeze the ink out, but I still have a nasty scar to this day. Teenagers are stupid, at least I was. And a father tattooing that on his daughter is creepy as hell. If he'd done a star or something, it would just be stupid and irresponsible, "daddy's girl" is creepy.

Unless there's some extreme circumstance, I would never let my child get a tattoo. I'm glad I waited until I was 18. Piercings, depends on the piercing, and even them I don't know.

honestly I don't agree with it, but it's not my kid. I think the parents should both agree on it and the kid, but that's as far as it goes. Is piercing your ears illegal too? I don't see an issue with it, again, not my kid so i'll raise my kids and they raise theirs.

I signed for my son to have a armband tattoo done when he was16. He has had several more since then. As long as she had the parents permission what difference does it make if the parent did the tat .  When my daughter got hers the only thing that made me mad was the fact that she got a stock butterfly instead of drawing it her self.

i actually had a friend that let her FRIEND tattoo her daughter who was 14 at the time. it looked like SHIT and he did it in his apartment...They both got the same thing (the infinity symbol with "family" spelled into it) and it looked like chicken scratch. I honestly tried to talk them out of it at great length. I am heavily tattooed and have several friends in the industry and gave my friend and her daughetr all the info...But, they went ahead and did it anyway and now have this permenent HORRENDOUS tattoo on them. As a tattoo collector (from reputable tattoos from ACTUAL tattoo shops) i am appalled at these so called "Scratchers" who think that they can do what it takes years and years to learn and accomplish to get GOOD at. FUCKING retarded and he deserves what ever he gets.

Who cares that it says "daddys little girl" I think that's cute and you don't know if she wanted it, maybe it was even her idea. I get the law says no one under 18 and all that, but in 2 more years her father could have signed for her to get one anyway. (Although hopefully by a licensed professional) Is this really something ill huff and puff about, nope...at 16. I got my navel pierced, to me its not all that different.

My God, we as a people need to learn to mind our own business. The only thing he did wrong was not having the proper license. It is nobodies business but the families. Some people tattoo as part of their culture. It is not our place to judge them.
