A mom in Canada received a call from her daughter and heard blood-curdling screams, threatening comments, and running in the background. She didn't know where her daughter was, since they'd had an argument a few hours earlier, and was totally freaked out. She called 911 and the cops discovered her daughter was in a movie theater in Victoria.

After some digging, they found that nothing was inherently wrong. She was watching Cabin in the Woods, a horror movie, and had accidentally butt-dialed her mom.

At first pass, this story's pretty hilarious. The mom heard the movie in the background and called the cops! But at second glance, I mean ... can ya blame her?

Given the recent movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, it's not far-fetched in the least to think that something very dangerous could be going down at the cinema. Police, too, were cautious -- they were ready to descend on the theater when the 911 dispatcher called the girl. She answered and explained what must have happened.

I can't blame the mom at all for calling the cops after hearing sheer terror on the other end of the line. She was just protecting her daughter and obviously wants her to stay safe -- what choice did she have?

All that said, a butt-dial from a horror movie that's in turn mistaken for actual horror is pretty funny, especially if you've seen Cabin in the Woods. Its campy, over-the-top themes really emphasized the dramatic ... oh, that poor mom. What she must have thought was happening is the stuff real nightmares are made of.

What would you have done if you were in this mom's shoes?
