Teenagers can be soooo difficult to deal with sometimes. Not only are we apparently just too dumb and dorky to ever understand ANYTHING, there's the hair-flipping, eye-rolling, and earthquake shock waves of attitude. Can a parent be blamed if you sometimes fantasize about throwing your teen in front of a judge and letting him handle the kid?
If you're one of those exasperated parents, you're going to love this video. Eighteen-year-old Penelope Soto has been brought before a judge for drug posession. And she's alllll, oh hai judge, don't mind me, giggling in a baby voice and playing with my hair and not answering any questions. Watch what he does when she flips him off in court!
Here's how the magic happens. First he sets her bond at $5,000 and says "bye." She laughs and says "adios" -- sarcastically. He brings her back and raises the bond to $10,000 because girl, you are getting on his last nerve. She says, "Are you seriousss?!?" "I am serious," the judge says. (Kids, never ask a judge if he is serious. I think you already know the answer to that question.) She flips him the bird and he sentences her to 30 days in jail for contempt of court. Cupcakes for everyone!
It kind of seems harsh to double a fine just for some lip. But flipping off a judge in court? Oh hell no. She'll never do that again. Thirty days in jail is plenty of time to go from "that asshole judge!" to "methinks perhaps it was unwise to display my finger in such an insouciant manner before the court."
(By the way, check out the girl behind Ms. Soto LOLing in the background.)
Meanwhile, parents of teens all over are sighing and wishing they could borrow Judge Rodriguez-Chomat, just for one afternoon. Not because parents can't handle their own kids. Just because URGHHH!
Was the judge too harsh, or is he a new American hero?

No, not too harsh, he's a judge, not her BFF. He did what he should have done.
Nice! If that was my kid they would pray for jail time over what I would do to them when they got home from sentencing. She did seem like she was on something btwn the jerky hand gestures, eyeballing and jaw grinding. Maybe coming down off of speedballing. Hopefully her cockiness was attributed to chemicals as well or she needs a kick in the ass for just the attitude.
Yay! Three cheers for that judge. Kids (adults, too) need to know it's no joke!
This judge is awesome!
Great job, judge! We need more like him.
Good for him! She was being a complete snot!
