Belgian Teen Suffering From Cancer Gets His One Wish to Be a U.S. Soldier (VIDEO)

The story of a sick Belgian teen proves that we can inspire our children in so many unexpected ways. The 16-year stricken with cancer has traveled across the world to fulfill his greatest wish -- to become a United States soldier.

Antoine Brisbois has admired our military since he was a young boy listening to his grandfather's stories about heroic American troops in Belgium during World War II. He always wanted to know what it felt like to be an American soldier, and thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, his dream came true.

Diagnosed with bone cancer at age 12, he wrote a letter to the organization three years ago asking to be a U.S. soldier. When he was told he was going to Fort Knox to be an army man for two days, he couldn't believe it. "I thought it was a joke," he said through a translator. It was an incredibly special experience for Antoine. He was able to see just how they conduct missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. On the first day, he dressed in full combat gear, rode on an armored truck, fired blanks alongside a combat unit, and disarmed explosives. "I am extremely happy," he added. "It's a beautiful uniform and it's an extreme honor to wear the American uniform."

With many, if not most, kids asking to meet celebrities or go to theme parks, this particular wish certainly stands out from the rest. He is not even from the U.S. and he looks to our courageous servicemen as his greatest heroes. How unbelievably touching is that? You don't have to be his parent to be incredibly proud of this kid. Though his family said that it was only fitting that he would want to do this above all else. He fought cancer like a soldier and now, thankfully, he is in remission.

Are you surprised a teen from another country would ask for this wish?
