Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez's Split Is Their Smartest Move Yet

Rant 4

While I will admit that the split between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez is legitimate entertainment news, I don't quite understand why people are so shocked -- and in some cases even devastated.

According to an Us Weekly source, "Selena broke up with Justin ... It's been a really challenging experience over the last year because of their crazy schedules. Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin." All I can say is splitting up is the best move for them both. Here's why:

They are way too young to be so serious anyway. I always thought their romantic getaways aboard yachts and on remote tropical islands were a bit bizarre for kids their age. While Selena is now 20, Justin is still just an 18-year-old. Why such an intense romance? They seemed entirely too eager to take things to the next level. They needed to slow it down a bit.

You see, I am a big proponent of sowing your wild oats. People should date around, have fun, be young -- not be tied down before 22. And that goes both ways. What's good for the goose is most definitely good for the gander. Selena and Justin both need to grow up and experience life more before making any major commitments. I hope the same for my own son (whose dating years are thankfully a decade plus away!). But when that day comes, I don't want him to settle down with the first girl he is serious about.

Now, before the purity police get up in arms, know I am not promoting whorish behavior by any means. I just don't think we should encourage kids to get too attached or consider marriage in their teens. People change so much in their 20s -- they mature, they start to figure out who they are, what they want, and more importantly, who they want.

Do you think Justin and Selena did the right thing by calling it off?

Not surprised that they called it off, a lot of people are still too imature at that age to have a 'serious' relationship. However, it is completely ignorant to say that all couples are too immature to have one. I have been with my husband since 16. Got engaged at 17, married at 19. We are now 29 and still happily married. My parents have been married for 46 years, got married at 18. NO, it isn't for everyone, but you can't generalize that a couple 'shouldn't get married' because they are young.

Do I think they did the right thing by breaking it off? Who am I to say if it was right or wrong? If it was a relationship where one was abusive to the other then yes they did right. But for a happy relationship gone sour its not me to judge. I've been with my husband for almost 13 years including marriage and we have been together since we were 16. Yes not for everyone but not impossible or stupid. When you find that person you find them. Selena looks like a smart girl and if she lasted as long with him then kudos to her. Let it be. At the end together or not they are stronger from it.
