It goes without saying: When you're a parent, you'll do anything for your child. If you sense your kid is in harm's way, that's it, all bets are off. You'll break the law for your child; you'll make an ass of yourself; you'll put your own life in danger -- doesn't matter. Anything to protect your child. Sometimes, though, parents have to get creative to keep their kids safe. Sometimes, they have to just get downright weird. Sometimes, they have to set up a fake Facebook account and pose as a 15-year-old girl in order to get their daughter's 19-year-old registered sex offender boyfriend arrested.
Jesper and Julie Myrfors discovered that their 17-year-old daughter was dating a Level 1 registered sex offender named William Elms. Obviously, they were none too pleased. Probably knowing that simply asking their teen to stop dating Elms -- or "forbidding" it -- would get them nowhere, they took things into their own hands and set up a pretty clever, sort of crazy sting on Elms. They created a fake Facebook profile for a 15-year-old girl, friended Elms, and waited for him to begin sending inappropriate messages -- which didn't take long. After a few exchanges, Elms began sending the "girl" salacious notes, along with a few pictures. The Myrfors then presented this info to the cops and the rest is history. History, meaning Elms was arrested for violating the terms of his probation.
An extreme measure to go to? Perhaps. But, like I said, all bets are off when it comes to protecting your child. If Jesper and Julie felt that this was the only way to keep their daughter from dating someone they felt might put her in a "dangerous" situation, who are we to say anything? It's their child. Their daughter may not want to talk to them for a while, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a small price to pay to know that she's safe.

Again, I don have all the details but at first glance they seem a bit out of line.
Theres not enough information here for me to form a real opinon. Perhaps he's a sex offender for being 18 and having (consentual) sex with a 16 year old that HER parents didnt approve of. That's not uncommon. I was 17 and my husband was 19 when we started dating. Fortunately I was 18 by the time we "did" anything, but perhaps the boy wasnt really that big a threat? But, then again, if he was violating his probation be probably deserved to be punished anyway. This sounds like a complicated situation...
Again, not enough info. We don't know if the parents approached the daughter first with the news of his being being a sex offender (even if it Level 1). Perhaps if they told their daughter the truth, the daughter would have been smart enough to ask the boyfriend what the deal was and see what story he told. It seems to me the parents took it too far too soon.

Seriously, their parenting skills are so poor that they have to find a way to throw their daughter's boyfriend in jail because they disapprove of him? That poor boy.
