What would you do if your kid stole a car? What if they led the police on a car chase, which ended in a fantastic crash on a highway ramp? Oh, and what if said child was 14 years old?
If you're the mother of one particular 14-year-old accused of the above, you tell the media that your kid was wrong. And then you proceed to blame the whole thing on the owner of the stolen car and the police.
Yes, this really happened.
When the Pennsylvania TV station covering the teenage hooligan's joyride called up his mom, here's what she had to say:
My son was wrong for taking that vehicle, but someone jumped out of their car and a 14-year-old [saw] the opportunity to take the car. He didn't break the car to steal it. They left the keys in the car. I think as an adult we have some type of ownership to being responsible for our vehicles.
Ahem. America? In case you ever wondered why "kids these days" have such a bad rap, now you know: because they have parents like this one. This is the kind of attitude that makes kids think they have the right to steal something that doesn't belong to them in the first place. Because their parents raised them with a shady values system and an easy out for everything they've done wrong!
Oh, and it gets worse here, folks. The mom in question is also mad at the cops for daring to follow her son in the stolen Jeep. The way she sees it?
He had to no right to chase my son. It could have been a situation where maybe it was just a joyride down the street. Maybe he wanted to go further than he felt like walking.
What do you think of this mom's attitude?

WOW that mom is a moron. It scares me that she is raising kids. While yes I agree people should make sure they lock up their cars If they don't it doesn't mean some kid has a free pass to steal it. Maybe I was just raised better and hope I am raising my son better but when I see someone leave their car door open or their purse on top of it I tell them or I find a way to secure the car and return the purse. Finders keepers is a petty persons excuse to steal. Also the cop who was chasing him was doing his job if you don't want the cops to chase your son teach him not to steal because what he is doing is theft even if it was just a "Joyride down the block". Bet she would feel a whole lot different if that was her car some punk was stealing.
Wow, the mother is to blame!!! she had no clue. I actually tell my 7 yo that the cops have the right to arrest kids if they consider they can become a threat to themselves or other's safety. And she surely knows kids do not jump into other people's cars even if the door is open and the keys in the ignition, If anything, the owner should be warned.
She's a pos mother raising her child to be an entitled criminal. Nothing new unfortunately.
I hope someone steals her car and then she can blame herself!
The fuck you say! I'm not "all about violence". I do believe that kids are just small humans. However I don't think I could stop myself from beating my kid if they stole a car. I think this woman needs a hard reality check. Obviously she is an unfit mother. I'm with the4mutts on this.
her parental rights need to be revoked, Shes raising a priveledged dickface who will do nothing but burden society as an adult. WTF?
Opal I am not sure what "laws" you are reading but it is not illegal to leave your keys in your car thus you can not be fined for it. Taking someone elses car keys or not is illegal. All the people here saying why did they leave the keys in it you don't know that it was done on purpose. I have walked away from my truck leaving the keys but mistake because I was on the phone or trying to get my son inside. So IT DOESN'T matter why the keys were left. Thankfully in Texas there is still a law on the books that says you can shoot and kill a man for stealing your horse (or in todays standard your car).... I love Texas
