Vive la revolution! You know those awesome girls who convinced Seventeen magazine to stop digitally altering girls' body and/or face shapes? (An agreement they'll hopefully stick to, ahem?) Well, check this out: Those same girls are taking on Teen Vogue. Aw yeah!! You go, girls. If anybody deserves a reality show, these are the kids! Which would of course be called Beauty Mythbusters. Airbrushing would be against the law by the end of the first season!
Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. Teen Vogue didn't exactly respond the way these mini mavericks were hoping. They didn't officially respond at all. Instead, the released a statement serving as a roundabout denial thing. "What, us, Photoshop?"
You have to read it to believe it.
This is the statement:
Teen Vogue makes a conscious and continuous effort to promote a positive body image among our readers. We feature healthy models on the pages of our magazine and shoot dozens of non-models and readers every year and do not retouch them to alter their body size. Teen Vogue pledges to continue this practice.
Wait, wait, wait. They never said "we don't airbrush our models, we would never do such a thing!" They "do not retouch them to alter their body size." Oh yeah? How 'bout their body shape, huh? How 'bout their skin tone and hair texture?
Good thing 17-year-old Emma Stydahar and 16-year-old Carina Cruz, two of the teens behind the anti-airbrush movement, aren't buying Teen Vogue's line. That's why they're planning on delivering a box of petition signatures to the magazine's headquarters, where they'll stage a pretend fashion shoot in protest. HA! I totally want these girls to be my daughter's new role models.
Beauty Mythbusters to the rescue!
Do you think Teen Vogue will agree to stop digitally altering girls bodies and faces?

I recently read this issue of Teen Vogue (the girl who lived in my apt before me had a subscription and I love Miranda Cosgrove) and I definitely picked up on the irony of the body issue claims. They had an article about "body bashing" and self image right next to images of teenage girls that weigh no more than 100lbs soaking wet. I mean, how is that supposed to make a teenaged girl feel? "I know I should accept myself as I am but then again these girls are pretty and thin and in magazines." It sucks.
I <3 food. Everyone at the beach can enjoy my cellulite this season :-D
Wouldnt teen vogue have fallen under the vogue health initiative that was put into place over a month ago. The first cover of american vogue with the initiative in place had olympic atheletes on the cover. Would this not be the same thing that vogue already did on their own without the push of the public?
jodie-do you think there shouldnt be any skinny people in magazines to not make girls feel bad?
ok so they are pics. pics=art or self expression. whf is wrong with all of you! bad body image if you have bad body image its on your self esteem you crazy people er women sorry men dont fucking care this much!!!!!!!!!! if a teen girl is wanting to lose weight to look good let her she wont grow up fat in fact how bout you work out with her mom and show her how to be healthy. you know why those girls are thin and pretty its called self control and being active you have issues deep issues if some little girl on a magazine makes you feel bad come on people. and im sorry to be that person but ever since becoming a mom i am appalled by the example of "real women" that my daughter will have to grow up around! but fat is not healthy, sexy and we should not be telling our daughter too be happy with their weight IF the are OVER WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! they shouldnt be in the first place and that is YOUR fault as a so called mom if you let that happen! you should have helped your daughter with her weight, body image and show her how to be healthy! A BAD BODY IMAGIE IS YOUR FAULT AS A MOM AND ONLY SHOWS YOU FAILED TO TEACH SO QUIT HATING ON THE SKINNY AND EITHER FIX YOUR SELF OR DIE OF DIEBETIES.
idk why these magazines airbrush n photoshop so heavily, esp teen girls...these girls look just fine naturally!
