OMG, y'all. You'll never guess what kids at a Mississippi school had to see this week! A sixth grader waltzed into school wearing a t-shirt that showed off the United States Marine Corps' bulldog's butt right down to his (barely there) dangling doggy genitalia.
Thank goodness the school administrators came a-running to protect those wee ones and their eyes. They told 13-year-old Jordan Griffith he needed to take the shirt his big brother gave him and turn it inside out. Because we can't just have little kids seeing something they can see in nature on a kid's t-shirt, can we?
Oh ... wait.
Nature.
Hmmm. It looks like the folks at the South Jones Elementary forgot about what happens when their kids walk outside and see a real animal. Perhaps they'll send letters home to parents from here on out, forbidding any child from actually being in proximity to a real canine?
The teenager's mom is understandably a little P.O'd at her kid's school right now. Her elder son is serving in the United States Marine Corps, and she's calling the school's prudish behavior an attack on military spirit. I'm not so sure I'd go that far. I'm betting the shirt could have had any old bulldog on it, and the teen would have gotten the same lecture.
But I do think this is another sign of the "let's shelter our kids from everything" mentality that's so pervasive in America. This was not a naked man or woman. It was an animal! There is nothing sexual about a dog's penis, or a squirrel's for that matter. We all ignore them when we see them, and so -- more or less -- do our kids. If they ask, we tell them that's part of the dog's anatomy ... and move on.
By making something naturally on display so taboo, schools aren't protecting kids. They're making it exciting. They're turning the natural into the unnatural.
It wasn't the t-shirt makers or the teenager proud of his brother's service to our country who turned the symbol of the US Marine Corps into something dirty. It was the school administrators who decided it should shock kids. And what do you want to bet that now kids are noticing doggie genitalia in a town in Mississippi?
What do you think of this school and their reaction to the bulldog shirt?

I don't find the balls offensive, I find the butt offensive. I don't want to sit behind this kid and look at dog butt all day. Poo comes out of there. Geez, that would be distracting. Dog face, dog profile, nice, dog butt, not nice! The message of the shirt was be a leader so you aren't stuck looking at somebody's backside. Why, because backsides aren't all that pretty. Good message, bad application for a 13 year old. And a person who is 13 in May should be in the 7th grade not the 6th. So maybe somebody needs to stop screwing around and focus on his school work. Stop cutting up in class and get on with the job. Maybe his brother bought it for him as a reminder that he needs to get and keep his act together otherwise his view will never change..
Genetalia is genetalia regardless if it's on a human or an animal and my question is if the child was wearing a shirt with human being and the genitals would everyone be screaming that it's natural and doesn't hurt anyone that is how the human body looks blah blah blah or would they be asking what kind of parent would send their child to school in that attire exposing other children to it? It's not appropriate plain and simple. The school has to adheare to all children and there are those who probably would be offended by the shirt because of the genitals showing. A school does not want a bunch of parents coming in complaining that their child saw something inappropriate that they shouldn't have seen. It's a shirt and wear it at home, don't send your kid to school in it. There are other shirts and ways to show your support to the military
Perhaps we should allow our schools the right to set dress codes. If the boy had worn that shirt to work, depending where he worked, it could have been very inappropriate, He could have been sent home or fired. He could have worn the shirt off campus. He was not banned from ever wearing his shirt. He could have shown support for his brother's job while at school in a multitude of different ways. Our children's job is school. We need to support our educators. They have a most difficult, yet precious job.
To the author: Where is your head? Are you kidding me? I have a VG, but I don't put a picture of it on a T-shirt and prance it around 6th graders! Do you really advocate "No Class in our society" at all? What is wrong with you? If the family wants to promote the Marines, do it with an appropriate T-shirt. Yes, dogs don't wear clothes! That doesn't mean that when I am around a dog I find a way to view their genitals close up! What kind of mind-set do you have? This was a totally inappropriate T-shirt to wear to school! My apologies to be so offensive, but the author and a lot of people in our society need to grow up. Gross-out does not need to be the order of the day in our culture. Grow up! Take responsibility for what each one of us is putting out in our society. One doesn't have to be a prude to be appropriate and have just a smidgeon of class.
This is absolutely ridiculous. There were no vulgar words like we hear and see on television every day. I am so sick of people getting offended about every little thing that doesn't go their way. If kids (no matter the age ) don't know by now that All Males(dogs, horses, cats even their Daddys) have a penis then we are in trouble.
ksproud - To each his own! If you think crass and no class should be in our society that's your choice. I am not a prude, but don't care to see pictures of genitals or butts of humans, dogs, or any other animal on T-shirts. At least not at school or work, etc. You want to wear something like that to a family picnic so we can all laugh, fine! For school or work - very inappropriate!
Seeing it in nature is completely different than on a t-shirt. This article is dumb.
Put what ever label you want on me, but the school was in the right. Sorry, but there are a slew of things they could have put on a t-shirt, shame on the people who printed this t-shirt. This is supposed to represent the few, the proud! OMG. When I pick up my teen grand children at school, I am amazed at what they are allowed to wear, and what is scarier, is you can't tell the students, from the teachers. Maybe I am an old prude, I don't think so, but I will tell all you kids out there, if you don't have respect for yourself, don't expect anyone else to have respect for you.
