I'm pretty sure this is my favorite episode of CafeMom Studios' Coffee Shop Confessions so far! That's because "I Flip My Daughter the Bird" is all about dealing with a teen girl, an experience waiting in my not-too-distant future, and as series regular Timberly Whitfield says in this clip, "I'm scared!"
What am I scared of? Quite honestly, I'm scared of ending up as frustrated and fed up as the mom in the video, who gets so annoyed with her moody adolescent daughter every morning that she "flips her the bird" as soon as she walks out the door.
Ha! Or, yikes!
Not that giving your kid the finger after she leaves the house is such a huge deal -- as Julia Knight wisely points out, it's better than killing the kid. Of course, it is also somewhat "passive-aggressive" (Alex McCord's comment), and maybe it WOULD be more effective to let out a loud scream (Andrew Shue's advice).

All in all, I'd have to say this particular coping mechanism is fairly harmless. But I still don't want to feel that way when my kid is a teenager!
Would you ever flip your kid the bird?

Im pretty sure my mother flipped me some behind the back birds at some point or another in my teenage days. LOL
Once or twice on a bad day, out of frustration, that's one thing. But I think if you wanna do this everyday, and ESPECIALLY to a child, that shows some significant mental issues on behalf of the mother.
if its behind the back, who really cares? I don't know if my mother did it to me or not, it can't hurt me. Shes only human.
I'm sure I've been flipped off by my parents before! Especially my stepdad. I've been known to flip off family members behind their backs- but never to their face. Well, OK, hubby and I do the, "I got you something at Target. It's real nice!" thing to each other at least once a week- in jest, of course. =)
Parents need to vent and what your kid doesn't know won't hurt them.My 15 year old is pretty easy but my 18 year old is a nightmare. She's been pissing me off regularly since she was little.I gave her an ultimatum a week before she turned 18 after many years of trying everything. If she wanted to keep acting like a rebellious13 year old I'd give her a suitcase for her 18th b-day.She did change alot. She finished 12th grade early(instead of late)and even got a job but her eye rolling and mouthy self still rears its ugly head from time to time.I've noticed now that whenever she gets out of the car and she walks away I like to call her an a**hole. It helps calm me down while I'm waiting for her to finish college and get the f**k out.I love her and I can't stand her.
