Stories about kids being bullied are always heart-wrenching, but this one is flat-out heartbreaking. Because it wasn't another kid who was bullying 14-year-old Cheyanne at her Ohio middle school, it was her teachers. That's right, teachers, plural.
And Cheyanne isn't just any student, she's a special needs student.
It only gets worse, I'm incredibly sorry to say. The verbal abuse Cheyanne endured at the hands of her teacher Christie Wilt and teacher's aide Kelly Chaffins is enough to turn your stomach (more on what constituted the abuse later). I can't imagine how Cheyanne's parents felt when the school principal ignored their complaints, telling them their daughter was just "making up stories." Even the superintendent refused to take them seriously.
So Cheyanne's parents decided to do something drastic.
Desperate for proof, her dad Brian sent Cheyanne to school equipped with a hidden recording device.
Four days later, Brian says he and Cheyanne's mom stayed up all night crying over what they heard on those audio tapes: seven hours of Wilt and Chaffins taunting the special needs child in the most shockingly cruel manner possible, calling her dumb, a liar, and a cheat, ridiculing her for being overweight, and forcing her to run on a treadmill as punishment.
With evidence that shocking, you'd think the school would have to take action, right?
Well, yes ... barely. Chaffins was asked to resign, but all Wilt was required to do was undergo eight hours of anti-bullying and child abuse training.
How anyone in their right mind could allow that woman to continue teaching is beyond all comprehension. Beyond ALL comprehension. Who's making that judgment call and WHY? If anyone treated my child that way, I would ... I don't know what I'd do. Hopefully not end up in jail. Cheyanne's parents filed a civil lawsuit against the school district, which was definitely a wiser way to go than ... what I'd probably end up doing. They were awarded $30,000 in damages.
But the family still can't rest, because Wilt is still teaching.
WHY??
What would you do if Cheyanne was your daughter?

That is horrible. Those "women" should be ashamed of themselves. That breaks my heart..and I think I would end up in jail for kicking 2 teachers in their asses. What shame.
The Board of Education should ask her to step down, if not revoke her teaching license. HELLO?!?!? You are a TEACHER. You're PAID to help mold young adults into responsible, empathetic, productive members of society. They are DISGUSTING human beings and shouldn't be allowed to work with children again.
This story makes me so sick. That poor child! I really don't have the words to express my sadness over this. Those women should never be allowed around children EVER again. I worry that they have their own kids at home. If so what kind of treatment do they endure?
The same thing happened here in Georgia about a year ago. The parents put a hidden microphone on a young boy. The recording revealed them hitting the child, taunting him, making threats, and talking about very adult subjects in front of the kids. It took a long time, but the parents sued the school and that school must pay for private education for the boy until he is 21. Also, the tape revealed another little boy being abused as well. it was awful and heartwrenching. we trust teachers with the persons we love the most and this is what they do? if you hate teaching, go work somewhere else!!
It's not enough for the poor girl to deal with the normal teenaged crap, school and everything, plus having special needs, but this cow had to jump her every day. That is shameful. If my kid was her student, special needs or not, I'd be calling for her termination, sans benefit of pension. She forfeits all that with her deplorable behavior. Abusing children is never acceptable.
I would literally drive up there and punch her in the face! I wouldnt even care if I went to jail!
Honestly, I'd be in jail if someone did that to my child b/c I'd beat the shit out of those two women and show them what being bullied is.
what a shame! I feel horriable for that child and all others going through this
