Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato at the VMAsDemi Lovato has been through the emotional ringer in the past year, doing a stint in rehab for cutting and an eating disorder and facing a bipolar diagnosis. At 19 years old, no young woman should have to be enduring all that, but unfortunately too many are. And it surely isn't any easier under the scrutiny of celebrity life.
However, the singing star is emerging stronger this year with a new album coming out soon and a continued no-tolerance policy on bullying. Last night after some Twitter jerks criticized her body at the VMAs, Lovato came back about those insults loud and clear.
Here's what Lovato tweeted when insults about her body started flying:
Guess what, I'm healthy and happy, and if you're hating on my weight you obviously aren't. :) #UNBROKEN
Right she is there. People are just so downright cruel much of the time (not to mention, in this case, delusional -- she looks amazing!), especially to girls and women about their bodies. I'm not sure when it became acceptable for people to poke their nose into the business of another person's body shape or size. It's none of your business! If you don't like it, don't look. If you need to criticize someone, get out your own full-length mirror and have a critique party on your own hips and thighs or pecs or paunch.
While I watched Demi Lovato on the VMA Pre-Show talking to Selena Gomez, who is no doubt the slightish Katie Holmes bod to Demi Lovato's curvy Beyonce bod, I was so pleased to see the two side by side. Two lovely young women with different and equally lovely bodies. Of course, I guess the side by side also made all the haters out there do comparisons between the two, which is completely ridiculous. All women's bodies are gorgeous BECAUSE of our differences.
I'm so proud of Demi Lovato for calling bullsh!t on the constant barrage of insults that women are forced to tolerate. I wish all of us women and especially our younger girl and teen counterparts could learn to be so bold when someone pokes their critical nose around in our body image space. Get out! And mind your own frickin' business!

I thought she looked fantastic!!
@Buffalove - what does what the meanies said about her weight have to do with her fans sending death threats?
i am very proud demi stuckup to the bullies all bullies should growup already nobodys perfect and definately the bullies are not perfect
People were criticising THAT?! Dude, she has a slammin bod!
My dd loves those 2 girls (they are besties by the way for those that didn't know). I applaud Demi for doing what she did and for how she is handling it. It gave me a way to talk to my dd about the stuff Demi has done and she made me proud with her discussion/questions and all.
True fans wouldn't say anything bad but be supportive, only those that are jealous or just plain immature would even make those comments especially directly to her.
I think she looks great. People can be so stupid sometimes. lol.
