Future Trophy Wife T-Shirt, $7.50Believe it or not, it's almost time to go back-to-school shopping! (No, I don't know where the summer went, either, and yes, the thought of stocking up yet again on marble notebooks and folders and pencils makes me want to take a sedative, too.)
But the scariest thought of all? Buying back-to-school clothes, particularly for teens. It's easy when they're little and there's no chance that anything you pick up at Old Navy or Gap Kids is going to get your kid suspended, but once they're old enough to do their own shopping ... fuggedaboudit!
All you can do is try to get a good look at them before they leave the house in the morning and pray they don't change into something offensive once they get to school ...
You know, like one of these t-shirts:

Good luck getting your math teacher to make eye contact with you when you have this shirt on, sweetheart. The only way to make this tee more obvious would be if there was a button on it that played "Don't Stand So Close to Me" when you pressed it. $7.50

I'd like to buy a vowel ... because I'm not old enough to buy anything else legally! "Sometimes Alcohol Is the Answer" is definitely a message you don't want your kid broadcasting until after graduation, at the earliest. Preferably not until he's moved into a dorm somewhere and you don't have to look at this shirt. $19.95

Okay, here's the thing: I sort of agree with this t-shirt, but I don't want my daughter to realize this harsh fact of life is true until she's well into her 20s. At which point, if she wants to wear the shirt, I won't complain. I'll probably even wash it when she drops her laundry off at my house. $8.50

Ahahaha!!! Oh wait, I'm not supposed to be laughing at the shirts. You've got to admit this one is pretty hilarious, though. And at least wearing it would imply that your kid had some sort of reproductive system savvy. I can totally picture one of my fellow Catholic high school students sneaking this tee under a standard uniform button-down ... and getting detention. $19.95
Would you let your teen wear any of these t-shirts?

The last one is hilarious. As for the comment about those of us finding it funny as being disrespectful. Maybe I don't have a religion or believe in God so why can't I think it is funny, like you it is my choice to believe this. What if I am offended by a shirt that says "WWJD"? Do I expect you not to wear it. there are two sides to every story, keep an open mind.
haha I could see all my old Catholic highschool classmates trying to sneak that shirt under our polos back in the day... LOL In turn of course, getting detention...
yeah, the "go to jail one" is the only one I have a problem with...
My brother has, and has worn (to school) a "mount and do me" tee, a "f*%*% ray of sunshine" tee, a "what not to say to the nice policeman" tee among many many others...
Psh, *I* wore worse than those tees and still do!
the last one is pretty funny, and i'm sure i'd let my kid wear it. lol. the jail one though... that one is out of line. my daughter would be assisting me in tearing it to shreds and burning it.
The abstinence one is FUNNY! I would probably wear that one! The other ones are totally imappropriate for teens. And have you seen those stupid sweat pants that have "Hottie" or whatever on the butt in gems? I don't want my girls trying to get guys to look at their butts and boobs. They should have a little more self-respect than that.
The only one that I think is completely inappropriate is the jail one too.
The other ones aren't too bad.
I don't have a teenager yet, but I would totally buy the last 2, especially the last one. I think they're pretty funny, now whether I would let my kids wear them to school or not it a completely different issue.
Dear Liz,
Think about it...That shirt , by the very fact it has the Virgin Mary and Jesus on it is making a statement-an unsavory one, in my opinion.
There must be better ways to get this idea of abstinance across, without dragging the Blessed Mother into it. She stands for much more spiritually to be used in this way...I really feel that many Catholics are lukewarm these days. Yes, I am making a judgement, because I know the Virgin Mary, taken seriously, can be of so much aid in a person's life....
I chose to address the remark that AnissasMommy made : "I don't know why people get offended by little things like that..
Once again, to use the Virgin Mary in this way is offensive...Furthermore, I am feeling by the remark that I just quoted, that AnissasMommy is not as devout and spiritual as she could be, because if she were, she would not venture to make a remark that comes off as "I"m cool with this...What's wrong with the REST OF YOU?????"
This, Liz is why I dared to answer in this way. :)
I love the last one!!!
