Our house is strewn with various Leapfrog games of various vintages. The kids have played with almost every one - until the Nintendo DS came along - but they're great fun and a good way to keep the wee ones occupied when they have their eye on your cellphone.

Two new Leapfrog models add a few interesting features to the already popular (and inexpensive) line of electronics.

  • Arm Your Husbands: Lazer Tag Is Back

For kids of the 1980s, laser tag -- spelled "Lazer Tag" by the gamemakers -- was amazingly important. These electronic ray guns actually shot invisible beams of light and tracked your hits on a wearable target. In short, they were the coolest thing since Monchichis.

Hasbro has recently resurrected the brand and offered us a chance to try out their new version complete with iPhone interactivity that turns the skill of shooting targets with lasers into high art.

We could go back and forth for hours about whether kids these days have it better or worse than we did. But when it comes to video games, there's no use arguing. Do you really want to go back to the days when a video game was really just a bunch of text commands? I sort of like having real pictures!

So, the next time your kiddo is whining about how hard they have it,  maybe a little trip down memory lane gaming-style is in order? Take a look:

Oh the gamers in our lives: Can't live without them, can't talk them into going out during daylight hours. Addicted to video games? What? Impossible! They can stop any time, really. But you may have to remind them to change their clothes every couple of days.

Fortunately there are loads of hilarious gamer t-shirts for those people who consider the controller and the nunchuck actual extensions of their hands. Like this one above. Ha! Get it? Money, power, woman ... coins, star bits, and Princess Peach?!? Ehh, I guess you'd have to be a Super Mario fan to appreciate it. These tees may baffle the rest of the world, but they speak a gamer's language.

Hey, remember Draw Something? The Pictionary-like game for iPhone and Android that everyone was totally addicted to for a few months before Zynga paid OMGPOP $180 million to buy the game and seemingly overnight it lost like 4 million active users and everyone else decided they were sick of the same recycled words, rampant cheating (writing LADY GAGA next to your poorly-rendered meat dress doesn't count, people!), and the overall time suck factor?

Well, get ready to see a whole new version of Draw Something -- not on your phone, but on the screen in your living room. Believe it or not, Draw Something is being turned into a television game show.

  • Which MacBook Is the Right One for You?

I was about to title this post "Which Laptop Is the Right One for You?" but unless you're on a tight budget and don't mind your hardware becoming obsolete in a year or so, there's no reason to look anywhere else for your family laptop needs. In short, Macs are the most stable and user-friendly notebooks out there, and until Windows 8 appears, steer clear of cheapbooks (laptops below $500).

On Monday, Apple's Tim Cook announced a brand new laptop, the MacBook Pro With Retina Display. It is, without mincing words, breathtaking. The screen has double the resolution of any other screen available on a laptop today and it is thin, light, and quite powerful.

    But is it for you?

Let's be real: Adults and video games don't exactly go hand-in-hand. Sure sure, spending some quality time with the game controller every once in a while isn't necessarily harming anyone -- but spend more than an hour in front of the boob tube getting down with your bad self playing old school Mario Kart, and some may think you have a problem. An addictive problem.

But hey -- what if I were to tell you there are benefits to playing video games?! Mhmm, real life perks to being a gaming wizard? Read on to see the 5 surprising benefits of playing video games as an adult:

Alright, I'm just gonna come out and say it. I love video games. Seriously, there's almost nothing I love more than whipping some booty in a round or two (or six) of Crash Bandicoot circa 1996 or, EVEN BETTER, Mario Kart. So what if these games aren't, like, the hippest most happenin' ones on the market these days? They're sorta old school. Old school AMAZING.

OK, so I may not be your run-of-the-mill average gamer. But hell, I'm SURE there are loads of other women like me. In fact, check out these 6 unexpected types of moms that play video games, too:

Since Microsoft announced Kinect Star Wars at the video games trade show E3 last summer, the gaming world has waited with breathless anticipation for a game that combined the "you are the controller" wizardry of the Microsoft Kinect and the fun of Star Wars.

So now that Kinect Star Wars has landed in stores, how amazingly great is it? What did Microsoft do right and what did they do wrong? And more important, is it a great game for kids and kids at heart?

Sadly, the answer to the last question is probably "No."

Have you gotten completely hooked on Angry Birds yet? Because it's kind of a big deal right now, just in case you hadn't noticed. I don't play the game myself, but my 6-year-old son? Yeah -- he's beyond addicted. He has been ever since the first version of the game came out. And I'm hoping you won't call me the worst mother in history for thinking of Angry Birds as one of the best babysitters I've ever had. (It really is.)

On that note, I'm trying to contain my excitement over the idea of Angry Birds expanding from being an app/game to being a weekly TV series -- and eventually a movie. It's in the works, you guys -- and I can't wait.
