Good news for Apple fanbois (and gurls). The company will now replace your cracked iPhone screen for the low, low price of $150. Before, if you dropped your iPhone and the screen shattered, you had to go to a specialty shop to get it fixed (or buy a new phone altogether). But now, Apple's doing us a solid, and-- wait, $150 isn't a steal. Why are people rejoicing? A hundred and fifty dollars is a lot of money!
I, personally, am of the mind that cell phone insurance is always the way to go. It's kind of a pain to have to fork over the money every month, but ultimately, it's much cheaper over the course of a year than having to buy a new one, should anything happen to it -- like a cracked screen.
But here's something else that I found interesting about the Huffington Post article that reported the joyous news -- apparently, cracked iPhone cases are kind of cool these days. What? Seriously? I feel like I'm 100 years old right now, because I seriously have no idea why on earth a highly-coveted piece of technology that goes for about $600 would be considered cool if it's cracked. Is it because the owner seems hard core? Like they were out partying when they dropped it? Why, young people, why?! Please, enlighten me. I'm old and don't get out much.
I love my iPhone just as much as the next guy, but I've gotta say, some things I really will never get. I don't think $150 is a steal for a screen replacement, and I don't think cracked screens are cool any way you slice it. So I guess I'll just go back to doing what I do understand: Playing Bejeweled Blitz and texting. Peace.
Have you ever cracked your phone's screen?
