7 Things I Hate About Pinterest

Rant 40

7 annoying things about PinterestOh Pinterest! I'm addicted to you and all your pretty pictures. Your recipes, your crafts, your hot Ryan Gosling photos.

But lately, you've been really annoying me and I'm falling out of love at a rapid pace.

And yes, I realize that it's not really your fault but rather all the Pinterest users who feel the need to pin ridiculous crap.

So if you're on Pinterest like me, listen up, and stop ticking off your followers.

1. Weird Nail Art

Oh my goodness, enough with the nail art already. Sure, the polish colors are pretty. And inspiring. But the panda bears? The piano keys? I just can't take the silliness anymore.

2. Dumb Crafts

I love to do crafts with my kids as much as the next mom, but when you're gluing noodles on a paper plate and calling it "art," that's just lame. Do something that we couldn't all figure out with our eyes closed.

3. Dead Links

Ever click on a photo with cool organizational ideas or the best pot roast recipe and it goes to nowhere? A photo url. A dead link. The main blog page where you have to search for hours to find what you're looking for. Just stop it. Click before you pin!

4. Trash Diving

Did you really need to save that plastic tape dispenser and turn it into something else? Do we really need to find yet another use for a mason jar? Sometimes trash is just trash and it doesn't need to be turned into a useless thing that just takes up more room in your house. And even if you want to do it, don't share it with the rest of us on Pinterest!

5. Members-Only Sites

People figured out they could make money by linking their members-only sites where people have to join and they make a commission, but that means when you click on an item, you have to join the club in order to see it. That's an immediate unfollow for me.

6. Stupid Quotes

Just because someone said something once doesn't make it quotable. And it certainly doesn't make it worth turning into a poster and spreading around Pinterest. ENOUGH!

7. False Advertising

I'm so tired of clicking on what looks to be a cool Pinterest pin with lots of information, only to find out that it's an ad for something else. Or it has absolutely nothing to do with the image that was pinned.

What drives you nuts about Pinterest?

I agree with the nail art - I unfollow almost every one that posts those.

Quotes and the long pages of outfits! I have come across dead links and its recipes I love. Then I have to repin and delete the old.

HATE the dead links. Or the really good looking recipe that turns out to be a deleted link because it turned out to be spam. Ugh, so stupid.

Also hate the tattoo people.

My concern is Pinterest turning into a haven for retailers to flog their wares. Lots of tech problems too - maybe they're growing too fast.

Coles_mom: YES! hahahahaha.. I have to agree.

I don't do Pintrest but I do post ALOT of nail art. I'm a manicurist and showing off my skills gets me jobs on my facebook page. 100% of the art you see on mine is hand done by me. Now I don't do ridiculous art like the angel one shown here but I do have a painted Zoidberg and Hey Arnold! set.

I definitely disagree with #2. As a first time mom, I am sort of at a loss as to what is age appropriate for my toddler. I welcome any and all ideas that can help the gears turning, even if it's gluing pasta onto a paper plate since I can expand on that with some creativity.

I disagree about the trash to treasure stuff as well. Some people really like to upcycle things. I'm not necessarily one of those people but there are some fun ideas out there.

I like the quotes, too, funny, serious, inspiring.... I'm also a writer, so maybe that's why I like that kind of thing.

I agree about the dead links, false advertising and members only stuff, that is annoying. But anything else, I just unfollow someone (or a specific board) if I don't like what they're posting. It's not worth really ranting about, honestly.

Wow, this article had a really angry feel to it. Some of your comments were just, well, mean. I have to wonder why pinterest has your panties in such a bunch. If it bugs you that much, just stay off it.

Maybe you need to treat yourself to a spa day or something, because as one of besties says, something is apparently "Fawkin' up your zen"...

Hope you get some peace.

Cute post. I'd just like to point out that it's possible to find the origin of a dead link by using "Google Image" search. I download the picture, then go to Google Search and click "images". I then click on the camera in the search bar and it prompts me for the name of the picture. I select my picture and VOILA (sometimes....) the locations where it's existing on the internet. Image search can be REALLY useful!
