5 Super Cool Facebook Tricks You Probably Don't Know About

Hot List 31

baby on laptopOh, Facebook. You are the bane of my existence. Should I quit you? Should I stay? Should I stay, and somehow learn to love you? I don't know. But I do know there are some cool Facebook tricks out there. Tricks I just recently learned. Tricks that might make sticking around Facebook a little longer worth it. Tricks that ... might not make me a self-loathing user?

Here are 5 super cool Facebook tricks you probably don't know about. And if you do, you're a lot cooler than me. Which isn't very hard. Trust me.

You can hide that you're online. This is a well-known trick, and one I employed basically the minute it was available. If you don't want to be available to chat with your "friends", simply hide your name from the "online" section. Just click on the chat icon at the corner of the screen and click the option that says "go offline." Boom, done. Later, weird person I met once 20 years ago trying to strike up a convo.

You can download your entire Facebook history. Weird, right? And I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to do this, but nevertheless, it's an option if you so choose. Simply go to the Account Settings page; click "Download a copy of your Facebook Data"; and download your entire Facebook history. Voila! Six years of LOL-worthy fun times.

You can schedule a Facebook status. Going out for a few hours? Flying? Going to be out of the country for an undisclosed amount of time? Not to worry, you can schedule a Facebook status update for those times when you just can't be at your computer, but need to let the world know you still exist. There's an entire YouTube tutorial on how to schedule a status update for later. And it's easy. Much easier than typing the directions out.

You can edit your already published comments. It's happened to the best of us. We've written what we think is a HIGH-larious Facebook post and then we realize we spelled "the" "teh". You can fix it. Simply roll over the comment, click on the pencil icon, and edit away!

Get mail you've missed. I logged on to Facebook one day, and realized that I had about 20 messages from people that I never saw. The reason? They were in the "Other" folder in my mailbox. When you go into your mailbox, check the icon marked "Other". You may have missed messages. And they may be good!

What Facebook tips do you know of?

download dosen't work. I tried to do it, so did a lot of people I know, and facebook said it would take awhile and they would "email when the download was ready". This was over a year ago.

I just checked my "other" folder, and I had 40 unread messages... lol. Some dating back to 2010.

Thank you for sharing about the archive feature! I know there are status updates that I posted when DS was a baby about milestones and cute things he did that I forgot to put in his baby book. Now I can go back and see what happened when.

The best facebook trick I ever figured out was to #1. Not use my real name or post photos.  #2. Got tired of it and deactivated it.  #3. Kept my personal business just that:  Personal.  I have no desire to share everything with everyone and have people know my day-to-day boring news (like if I watched stayed on the couch all afternoon watching soaps and picked my nose or whatever the hell everyone finds so interesting about each other).  I'll write or call you with the big news.

I just checked my "other" messages and found out I won a mini makeover from a local radio station. This was over 6 months ago! Guess I missed out on collecting on that one. lol

Also if you're in a facebook official relationship with someone you can go to Facebook.com/us and every post and picture that has gone on between you and your SO will be on that page
