Everyone knows that cats and the Internet go together like peanut butter and jelly -- except maybe the father of 7-year-old Remi Urbano and his toddler sister, Evelyn. Both kids really, REALLY wanted to get a cat, but Dad tried to hold out by putting a seemingly impossible condition on the adoption process: before the Urbano family could add a feline to their mix, the kids had to rack up over 1,000 Facebook "likes" on their cat campaign photo.

So mom Marisa Urbano posted a ridiculously cute photo of Remi and Evelyn holding up their "Please like this picture!" sign, and, well, you can probably guess where this story's going, can't you? The kids got their 1,000 likes ... with about 128,000 to spare.

Marisa included some explanatory text about their family bet along with the photo:

Dan thinks there is NO way we can do this. I say there is. Help us out. We really want a cat named Hairy Pawturrr. If you can't like, shares. Shares count too! Thanks so much everyone!!

Dad says it was all in good fun, as he was pretty sure the photo would hit 1K at some point. He was, however, a little surprised that it took less than two hours ... and that the campaign would become such a viral success. The photo is currently up to over 129,000 likes, and the family's been contacted by Good Morning America and other media outlets.

The Urbanos have a cat now, of course (can you imagine if he reneged?? OMG, the Internet would have EATEN HIM ALIVE), although they adjusted her name to Hairyette Pawturrr. Marisa posted another update on Facebook:

We never intended to get this much attention, but are so happy to have put smiles on some faces and most importantly to have saved a life. Thank you to the Ellen Gifford Cat Shelter for helping us find our newest family member, they are a wonderful organization and were so kind to our family. Hooray for happy endings!

Now, who wants to guess how long it'll be before we see an emerging trend of Facebook campaigns launched by kids? Click "like" if I should get a turtle! Like my status if you think I shouldn't have to pick up my bedroom! LIKE THIS IF YOU THINK VEGETABLES TASTE LIKE BARF.

What do you think of this story? Would you have liked that photo if you'd seen it?
