5 Incredibly Rude Election Night Facebook Posts

Hot List 21

obamaToday is a great day for America -- if you like Obama, that is. If you don't, it's a crappy day. Not just because your candidate lost, but because you're subject to endless Facebook posts, gloating about the election outcome. Or, on the flip side, perhaps you -- or someone you know -- are posting about how "Obama sucks." Or how "liberals are idiots." Or how everyone just needs to "shut up already"!

Really, there's no winning.

Whether you believe we're a nation divided or not, one thing's for sure: Facebook, and the Internet in general, has made some of us super nasty when it comes to politics. What happened to us?! Here are 5 incredibly rude status updates about the election.

Using the word "libtard". Yes, I've actually seen this word floating around on the world wide web. Obviously, it's a derogatory term to describe a "liberal" person, or someone who voted for Obama. And the "tard" part -- well, I'm guessing you can deduce what word that comes from. In short: It's extremely rude and offensive. If you don't like someone's political beliefs, no need to stoop to Ann Coulter-levels of low

Blaming the other party for why "our country is the way it is." Easy there. There are lots of factors involved in the state of the country. Your Facebook friends with opposing views aren't the sole reason.

Extreme gloating. Lots of people are happy Obama won (including myself!). But writing things like, "Suck it!"; "Hahahahaha!"; and "How does it feel now?!" on your Facebook page isn't cool. By all means, express your happiness, but deliberately trying to make others feel like shit really isn't the picture of democracy.

Unfriending anyone who has a different opinion than you. Barring people who are offensive and inappropriate, what does it say about you if you can't be "friends" with someone who has different political opinions than you? There's much more to life, you know.

Name calling -- of any sort. Completely offensive words like "libtard" aside, do we really need to resort to name-calling? Idiot, jerk, loser, etc. Would we ever say these things to each other's faces? I think not.

Did you see rude Facebook posts on election night?

I haven't had any personally, probably because I didn't post anything about who I voted for, but some of my friends have been subjected to vicious attacks. I'm sure if I did post who I voted for I'd be attacked by an assortment of people because I don't vote by party and I have friends on both sides who would be completely offended by that.

I don't much care what people say anyway. I've been called everything from a libtard to Reagan's lap dog by friends of friends on Facebook so I take that to mean that my views are thought out and balanced.

Personally, I think that part of the reason Romney lost is because of the rude things a lot of his supporters said. I know that a big reason I didn't vote for him OR McCain was because i thought the people promoting them were down right mean. Yes, Dems can get mean , too. But not nearly as hateful as some of the Reps I've seen.

The worst FB comment I saw on my newsfeed (from someone who claims not to be racist, but says stuff for "shock value."  Yeah.:

"I was dreaming of a White Christmas, but it looks like I'll have to settle for a HALF-WHITE Christmas. . .goodnight!"

In second place?

"No one on my Facebook is rejoicing Obama's win.  It's probably because they are lazy-ass welfare recipients and can't afford cell phone or Internet access.  HA!"

That's funny because the only rude things I've seen on my FB news feed have been from my liberal friends.  My conservative friends have mostly stayed quiet.  I mean, I have seen some downright nasty and disgusting things posted.  My own sister liked a status where someone wrote that democrats should all give republicans a big fat middle finger today.  Wow, really?  She knows who I voted and I've always been very respectful of her differeing opinions.

Nasty poor sportsman like gloating or bitching from anyone makes me loose respect for them. Win, loose, or draw if you act like an ass then I will think you are an ass.

I'm also tired of the meme that says "99 problems but Mitt ain't one."  I get the sentiment and I know this meme isn't rude or anything, but honestly, having 99 problems is nothing to joke about and not really the best way to applaud Obama's efforts as president.

I have been doing a sweep on my FB page. My views are very well known, and I have many friends who's opinions differ from mind and we in turn have some very enjoyable arguments. But this last week I've seen more ignorance and child-like gloating-- It's disgusting. And I still have my extreme friends that I've kept on my friends list, but I've deleted 4 or 5 and been deleted by 2 or 3, and I will not miss seeing their ignorant, snide quips.

My favorite are the people who post something ignorant and rude and then when YOU comment on their post in an honest to god polite manner, they get all bent out of shape. "It's my facebook I can say what I want. I'm allowed to have my opinion, etc. etc. etc"  Bitch, nobody said you couldn't have your opinion but don't expect to post something nasty and have nobody respond.

Very true that the conservatives true colors are coming out right now. I see more nastiness by them by a landslide than I see from anybody happy Obama won.
