5 Facebook Photos Parents Shouldn't Post

by Nicole Fabian-Weber on August 1, 2012 at 9:10 AM

nicole fabian-weberOkay, you can post this, Mom.It's been scientifically proven: Parents love posting photos of their kids on Facebook. And who can blame them? Kids are cute; they're something to be proud of. Who wouldn't want to show them off?

Thing is, though, not all photos of your child should make their way on to Facebook. Not only for the sake of others who could give a rat's, but for the sake of your child, who may not, in 14 years, want a photo of themselves wearing nothing but a few strands of sauce-tinged spaghetti on the Internet.

So, what do you say, Moms and Dads? What do you say we use a little bit of discretion when uploaded pictures of our little ones to Facebook? What do you say we don't post these five types of photos?

Naked photos. Now when I say naked photos, I mean naked photos. A picture of your adorable newborn taking his or her first bath, all sudsed up, is one thing, a photo featuring their penis or vagina is another.

Graphic delivery room photos. The birth of your baby is a moment unlike any other in the entire universe. Nothing is that special. So why not cherish it by not posting it for 1,100 people to see?

Photos of your baby's poop. I'm not sure if anyone actually does this, but I thought it was worth mentioning as a precautionary measure.

Photos of other people holding your baby -- without getting the other person's permission. I'm a big believer in the "ask before you post" policy. Not everyone likes pictures of themselves splayed across the Internet. And if you just can't resist posting, for the love of God, don't tag them.

A million photos of the same thing. As a new mom, I'm slowly learning that my daughter's expression may look different in all 23 photos of her laying on her play mat to me, but to others, same difference.

What types of photos do you not want to see on Facebook?

It goes the other way, too: it bothered me when other people posted pictures of themselves holding my baby without asking me if it was ok first. My sister posted the first pictures of him before I had a chance to do it.

A guy I know, just yesterday his girlfriend posted a pic of their newborn. I'm sure it was to show off when his footprints were inked but the angle showed the babys penis and for lack of a better word... Buthole. It was really tacky

Or your kid sitting on the toilet taking his first "big boy poop." Some day that boy is not going to be a toddler, and yet photographic evidence of his first bowel movement on the toilet will be all over the internet. If you can't keep that stuff off the internet for the sake of others, do it for the sake of your kids!

I agree w/Tara. Posting pictures of my kids without my permission really ticks me off. I spent years not posting any pictures of my kids to protect their privacy & just about had a heart attack when I came across pictures of my DD posted by her sperm donors mother on a public page. Ohhhhh, I can't begin to describe how angry I was. I have a couple friends who post a million photo's of the same thing shots. I used to be the "good friend" & look/comment on each one. Not anymore. Not enough hours in the day (year)!!. I will say I'm amazed by peeps who are so on top of their pictures that within minutes of taking pictures, they're already uploaded, into albums and have their scrapbooks all caught up. I'm still working on my oldest's baby pictures. He'll be 13 next month LOL.

I am not going to contact everyone after say, a family gathering and check for permission to post pics. I will take things down if people ask though. The other ones are spot on, and people do post poop pics, all the time. Check out http://www.stfuparentsblog.com/

I defriended someone because she posted a picture OF THE BABIES FIRST POOP! It was so repulsive and gross and completely inappropriate for facebook. I really think mom's need their own site, like MomBook, so they can all share that with each other, not unsuspecting facebook friends.

Right up there are any medical photos. People are always posting pics of gashes, scrapes, and even kidney stones! One even posted a pic of his puke covered car window after a night of drinking. Gross! As for kids' pics, I may be guilty of same pose, diff day. ;)

@Stacie - You picked your DD's father, and I hope you don't call him a "sperm donor" in front of her, even if he is a crappy father and a huge ass, because she will end up resenting you for it. If you do it right, she will learn for herself soon enough that he's worthless, but if you force it, it'll backfire.
