People Are Bored With Facebook and May Sign Off for Good

by Emily Abbate on June 8, 2012 at 1:04 PM

mark zuckerbergFacebook has been around for-freakin'-ever. Heck, at least it feels that way. When I joined the site about eight years ago, it was a completely different beast. People were all about the poke and there was no Timeline. But to be honest, despite the constant changes every .45 seconds to "the book" -- I'm not as interested in it as I used to be. Semi-surprisingly, I'm not alone.

According to a recent poll, 34 percent of Facebook users are spending less time on the site than before. Wanna know why? Because they are BORED.

You hear that, Zuckerberg? Your site's becoming a snoozefest!

I guess that's just what happens when you look at the same site day after day for years and years. Sure, the content on the site and the way it's presented is constantly changing, but it still feels like I'm staring at the same old thing. What's that? Someone ELSE is engaged and they're sharing all the deets in a status update? Oh, and there are MORE photos of yet another galpal's 2-year-old laughing in their high chair?

Longest. Sigh. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't WANT to see all this stuff. I like having it at my disposal. I'm just, well, sort of over it. Personally, I'm at a point in my life where I'd rather be out DOING something and seeing the people I've lost touch with instead of simply "stalking" them online.

Which is exactly what Facebook will always be good for: helping people reconnect. Once those friendships are made on the site, contacting someone is always just a click away -- no matter if they change their email address, phone number, or snail mail locale. At least that's something we can all be thankful for in the long run.

So tell me, are you bored with Facebook too?

Preach! I get bored with Facebook but I can't give it up yet and I don't think I will ever actually delete my account because it is a great way to share and keep up with others lives. Right now I'm home with my babies doing naps and meals and stuff so I have a littl bit of downtime so I turn to fb to catch up on gossip. But I'm sure when my kids get into school and other activities I will have much much less time to be looking at other peoples lives.

Yep! I'm much more into Instagram, but even that has been taken over by Zuckerberg. I hope he doesn't change it, but I have my doubts. FB is annoying. People use it to brag about anything and everything, rather than connect with people. I still have mine, but I just deleted over 100 people and I mainly use it for wedding updates for out of town family.

No, I am not. We are a military family and are almost never home with our families. And everyone has busy schedules so it hard to get on the phone or Skype. Facebook is the prefect way to keep in touch. And not only with family, the friends we have made along the way who move farther away.

I am definitely bored with Facebook and deleted the app off my phone a while back. I still have my account and do look at it maybe once a day when I'm bored but am closer than ever to just canceling it altogether.

Yes. Bored. Tired of the drama that plays out in my news feed. I'd love to delete my account, but it is the only way I can share things with family members in other states.

I'm tired of my almost 30year old friends that act more like teenagers than my 17 year old sister. I don't need to see where you check in everyday and I don't need to see all the status you have liked. I need to hide some people!
