Love her or hate her, there's no question that Kim Kardashian's name must appear in the news a bazillion times a day. Roughly. And if you were her, you'd probably be addicted to Googling yourself every hour on the hour, too. Remember back a few months ago, when Kim actually confessed to having a Google alert set for her name, so she could stay on top of all that Kardash goss? Not a bad idea for a woman whose career is built on public speculation about her personal life ... Nonetheless, it seems the self-stalking habit has gotten old.
Kim told Ryan Seacrest this morning that she's actually backed aaaaway from -- as Dubya Bush would say -- "The Google"! REALLY!
Here's how she addressed it:
I've heard so many ridiculous things and to be honest, I used to read all the magazines and watch things. I don't even look at any of that anymore. I've taken my Google alerts off my phone!
Whoa, wild, huh? Are she and Gaga starting a new celeb trend of saying "pfft, whateva!" to the media? Perhaps. But you don't have to be famous to learn something from these two tabloid staples' attempt to tune out. We could all stand to unplug from time to time.
I mean, how easy is it to get so sucked into Googling ourselves/our exes/our favorite (or most hated) celebs? Or how about whipping yourself up into a social media frenzy? Whiling away the hours on Pinterest (especially as a bride-to-be, haha), Facebook, Twitter ... all in search of some self-gratification, some ego-stroking. (Uh. Wasn't intentionally going for the sexual innuendo there, but hey, it works!) The Internet can make us addicts if we aren't careful! So, as crazy as this may sound ... it's time to make like Kim Kardashian and stop it already*!
(*But by all means, keep on reading The Stir!)
Can you believe Kim's shut off her Google alerts? Do you ever feel like you need a break from the web?
