I've got something to make your Friday more enjoyable, thanks to the two-great-tastes-that-taste-great-together combination of Pomplamoose and Angry Birds.
If you're not familiar with Pomplamoose, well, I'm thrilled to be the one to make the introductions. They're a wildly popular YouTube duo that has covered everything from Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” to Earth Wind & Fire’s “September,” and they are awesome. Multi-instrumentalists Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn have two major rules for the music they create: what you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing), and if you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
The results are more than a little catchy (just try and listen to their version of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" without bobbing your head), and they've racked up millions of views since forming in 2008.
Their latest cover song? You may recognize it from a certainly insanely addictive time-suck featuring birds, slingshots, and pigs.
That's right, Pomplamoose has taken on the quirky Angry Birds tune, with fantastic results. Check it out:
Shot on a Samsung Infuse 4G phone, the video is another runaway hit, with nearly a million views as of this writing. Who would have thought the theme song for a video game could sound this unique?
It's a hell of a smart cover, creating a sort of meta-vortex of viral goodness for both the gamemaker and the band. Pomplamoose has recorded several television commercials for the likes of Hyundai and Toyota, so this really underscores their ability to elevate the common jingle.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll be humming this tune all day long. Do do DO do, do do DO do ...
