For a month or so now, I couldn't help but wonder what the big hype was about actually getting invited to the Royal Wedding. I mean sure, it's cool and all -- but who needs to go to anything these days when you can read about it live, on Twitter.
But as the final countdown to when Kate Middleton and Prince William will say "I do" dwindles down, it looks like my plan of Twitter-following the ceremony is a no-go. It seems that all 1,900 guests in attendance at the royal affair will not only be banned from tweeting, but also from Facebook updating and texting too! Yup, organizers have arranged for signal-blocking technology to be installed at Westminster Abbey.
Hmmm, I wonder if the head honchos of the Royal Family caught on when celebrity guests like the Beckhams and Sir Elton John gained a few extra Twitter followers this week. To think, we thought we were being sneaky. I can't help but wonder: What could our favorite celebrity wedding guests have tweeted?
@JossStone: So much delish wine! I feel like singing! What do you think of a serenade of 'Fell in love with a Boy' as my wedding gift for the lovers?!
@KanyeWest: Harry's best man toast was shite. I shoulda been the best man!!
@victoriabeckham: So proud to be British! So proud to be here! OMG Kate's dress is SO POSH!
Sir Elton John: The church is b-e-a-u-t-f-u-l. So many candles. There's only one person missing tonight: Diana. She'd be proud.
@rowan_atkinson: Such jolly good folk here at the royal reception. Too bad Teddy couldn't be here to share this momentous occasion.
Of course, we'll never know what REAL 140-character thoughts the celebrities will have during the big event. But it's fun to guess! Honestly, I'm not too surprised that they've made this area cellphone-free. Hell, even Bravo TV star Bethenny Frankel had a phone-less wedding due to paparazzi concerns. But at least for this ceremony, they're letting the people bring in their devices! Who doesn't use their iPhone as a camera these days, right!?
Guess I'll have to head for the couch, not the computer, tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. EST to watch Will and Kate's vows. Best of luck to the bride and groom!
What do you think of making the ceremony a no-cell zone?
