While Angelina Jolie's health has often been the focal point of tabloid tongue-clucking, the superficial stories have never delved into how her mother Marcheline Bertrand fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56. Or the fact that she has wondered about her own risk of the disease. But Angelina's moving op-ed in The New York Times entitled "My Medical Choice" is a game-changer.

The famous mother of six has revealed that she is a carrier of the "faulty"/mutant gene, BRCA1, which significantly increases a woman's risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. And as a result, she chose to have a double mastectomy, which she managed to keep a secret -- until now.

    And why now?

When photographer Jamie Moore was looking for inspiration for a portrait series for her daughter's fifth birthday she saw a lot of princesses. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Moore says she loves princesses. It's just that... "It started me thinking about all the REAL women for my daughter to know about and look up too," she writes in her blog. "REAL women who without ever meeting Emma have changed her life for the better."

So Moore went through photos of brave women who changed the world so that her daughter could be anything she wants to be -- an astronaut, a President, a doctor. She narrowed the list down to "five amazing, strong women" and used the photos to take portraits of her daughter inspired by the originals. The result is an incredible visual love letter to all our little girls and the women who paved the way for us all. You have to see this portrait series, "Not Just a Girl."

Jordin Sparks is speaking out about her jaw-dropping weight loss, and it's pretty incredible. Nope, she's not shilling for any commercial weight loss company (which, okay, yes, I kinda love). Instead, she's talking about what she did on her own to drop 50 pounds in 18 months

She tells Redbook about the evolution of her own weight loss plan, which had three phases and is so simple and down-to-earth that it really could work for anyone ...

Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is one of those tracks everyone seems to think they can sing. Or wish they could sing, at least. When contestants bust an Adele cover out on The Voice, Adam Levine's eyes basically roll into the back of his head -- for a reason. Ain't no one does it like Adele. ... EXCEPT U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Angie Johnson, who you just have to see -- and hear -- to believe.

A video of Sgt. Johnson and the Air Force band, Sidewinder, performing "Rolling in the Deep" has hit the web, and if you're like I was, completely convinced no voice could even come close to Adele's, you're in for a big surprise.

    Check it out ...

Our condolences to the family and friends of Divinyls' singer Chrissy Amphlett, who died yesterday at the age of 53 after battling breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. Though Divinyls recorded five albums between 1982 and 1996, the band is best known for their 1991 hit "I Touch Myself", due in no small part to Amphlett's trademark look -- a schoolgirl uniform with fishnets and long red hair -- and seductive vocals. As her husband, former Divinyls drummer Charlie Drayton, said in a statement:

"Chrissy's light burns so very brightly. Hers was a life of passion and creativity; she always lived it to the fullest. With her force of character and vocal strength she paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women."

Time has announced its 2013 list of the 100 most influential people. And guess who's on the list? A lot of women -- women who are having a profound impact on motherhood as we know it. Not all of these women are mothers, either. But we feel their influence. Here are just 12 we think are especially meaningful for moms.

Today just happens to be Kourtney Kardashian's 34th birthday, and for whatever reason, I thought she was much younger than that -- probably because of how amazing and youthful she looks.

I always pegged her for a gal in her late 20s, especially considering how well her body has bounced back from having two kids. Even though it's only been nine months since she had her second baby, daughter Penelope, Kourtney is super-svelte -- and it's obvious she's worked hard to get back into tip-top shape.

Most of us would kill for her figure, but even if we aren't as tiny as she is, we can still learn quite a bit from how well she knows how to dress in a way that flatters her body at any weight.

Every year, Time magazine makes a list of the 100 most influential people who have changed, for better or for worse, our world over the last 12 months. One of the honorees this go round is actress Jennifer Lawrence, or as you and your kids might know her, the Girl on Fire, Katniss Everdeen.

If we compare Jennifer Lawrence to her contemporaries, as I'm sure Time did, it's clear why this exceptional young woman was selected for the list, and why, say, Kristen Stewart was not.

Country star and celeb chef Trisha Yearwood's speaking out about her recent notable weight loss in the new issue of People, and it's even more significant than we thought. She reveals she lost 30 pounds in the past four months. Wow!

In the interview, Trisha admits, "I don't think you can name one diet I haven't done. I'm that girl who buys every magazine where somebody's lost 30 pounds." But then, she had a realization that truly set her up to win at losing ...

Once again, science has gone through an awful lot of trouble to prove something totally obvious that we already knew. New moms on maternity leave feel totally inadequate about returning to work. If we're at home, we go for days without talking to another adult. When we return to work, we have less confidence. I mean, the whole study just paints the saddest, most demoralizing portrait of working motherhood you could ever ask for. Gee, thanks!

Okay, so we really didn't need these researchers to tell us it's insanely difficult to get our career mojo going again after we have a baby. Here's what we DO need: Some fresh ideas for HOW to get our career mojo going again.
