In the wake of the Newtown shooting, America's focus continues to be on gun control.

Yesterday, parents of the Sandy Hook victims announced the formation of Sandy Hook Promise. Today, New York became the first state to pass new gun control laws inspired by the shooting. And tomorrow, President Obama will unveil his own gun control plan.

With so much going on, five writers from The Stir took a few minutes today to discuss the issue from their very different perspectives, as part of this week's Moms Matter Google Hangout. See the video after the jump.

Wells Academy, a public school in Steubenville, Ohio, has every excuse to be struggling.

The poverty rate among students is greater than 50 percent. The class size average is 26 students per class. The amount spent per student is lower than it is in most other districts nationwide.

Yet Wells Academy is the number one school in the state of Ohio.

    What's the school's secret?

Don't you love when there is a stereotype and then along comes someone who smashes it to bits? I sure do, and that's why I love Diane, a single mom of two daughters who has a leg full of gorgeous tattoos, all with very special meaning.

Diane is also a motorcycle-riding mama -- she works at a Harley-Davidson dealership and is also a teacher there, giving courses to people who want to learn how to ride. She's been riding on two wheels for 10 years, but it wasn't until she turned 43 that she got her first tattoo. Let's learn more about Diane's story on CafeMom Studios' first episode of "Tattoo Moms."

In this week's Moms Matter Google Hangout, The Stir writers Jenny Erickson and Adriana Velez joined me for a discussion on the so-called fiscal cliff -- a set of automatic tax hikes and spending cuts that will start on January 1 if there is no agreement between the White House and the House of Representatives.

Jenny, as many of you know, is a conservative Republican. Adriana recently went to the White House for a blogger briefing on the fiscal cliff from the Obama administration's perspective. See what they had to say after the jump.

Mental note to self: in addition to pregnant women, strippers, drag queens and homeless people, put bus drivers on the list of folks I will never, ever break tough or talk sassy to. They’re snapping out all over the country, kicking tail and poo-pooing the consequences because they have to know, just like the rest of us, that in the age of the handy dandy camera phone, everybody and their granddaddy has become an on-the-ground reporter. So when they act out like they’ve been doing so frequently, they will inadvertently go down in YouTube infamy. The latest installment of public transportation workers gone wild comes courtesy of the MTA system in Baltimore, where a stocky, middle-aged driver physically fought and gave the business to a young girl on board, allegedly for refusing to turn her music down. In the more than minute long clip, they go. at. it. Warning: If you don’t like fights, don’t watch. It’s kinda rough.

Being a children's party entertainer might seem like a fun job, but TRUST ME. It takes a very special person to do it.

See how I did after the jump -- then tell me in the comments if you'd take this dare!
