ExoneratedLying is the number one cause of wrongful convictions. Lying to the police, lying to the prosecutor, lying on the stand during a trial. According to the National Registry of Exonerations, a joint project of the University of Michigan Law School and the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law, perjury and false accusation have been the real culprits behind unwarranted imprisonment. Now more than 2,000 inmates have been exonerated, including 101 accused individuals who had been sentenced to death.

woman stabs seashellThis is possibly the worst date you'll ever read about. A woman in Florida was out with a man, had a few drinks, then allegedly got rowdy, and not in a good way. After trying to relax with a night on the town, she became stressed over an upcoming court case -- for a battery charge -- and that's when the violence began. According to police reports, she and the man were at her Port St. Lucie apartment when she stabbed the guy four times with a seashell, then bit his ear.

It all took place around 3 a.m. and Wher bit the man's ear in the bedroom before puncturing him in the shoulder with a conch-like seashell. Now, Patricia Wehr, 40, is behind bars and faces charges for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

2 Men Accused of Throwing Bricks at McDonald’s Because Burgers Didn’t Have Enough Onions

burgersIn today's hilarious "Yes, this actually happened" news -- two hungry men in their early 20s were arrested Sunday after allegedly throwing bricks and concrete at a McDonald's window. The reason for the weighty rebellion? The cheeseburgers they ordered to satisfy their drunken munchies lacked a sufficient amount of onions

The funniest part? It was a delayed reaction. Supposedly the guys picked up their noms, headed home, and "continued to drink beer and get worked up about the cheeseburgers," according to a police report. THEN they went back.

Right, because when your burger's missing that extra crunch -- it's only natural to go back to its source, tear shit up, and injure two employees in the process.

dharun raviNearly two years ago Rutgers University freshman Dharun Ravi set up a webcam to spy on his roommate Tyler Clementi having a romantic encounter with another man. Days later Clementi killed himself. And this March Dharun was charged on 15 criminal counts including bias intimidation and invasion of privacy.

The judge could have thrown the book at Dharun and sentenced him to 10 years in jail. Dharun could have been deported back to India, where he was born and remains a citizen.

Instead the judge handed down a shockingly light sentence: 30 days in jail and three years' probation. It's definitely not what I expected.

Taking Photos of Your Cute, Naked Kids in the Tub Is Not a Crime

Imagine being the proud, doting parent of two adorable baby girl twins. You're also a well-known artist and photographer. So, you get in the bathtub with your babies, take a  photo, show it off on Facebook and, why yes, then you are arrested for raping your children. This is the nightmare that happened to famed photographer Paul Rusconi, who has his photos in museums all over the world, and who has photographed celebrities like Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Tyra Banks, and even President Obama.

It's really difficult to believe this happened, but it did. Rusconi was accused of raping his 20-month-old girls after a nanny, who was a distant relative, and her husband, saw the photos. There was no other evidence. Rusconi was arrested, spent the night in jail, was released on a $220,000 bond. And, oh yeah, his girls were given to his accusers. Ey, yi, yi!

George Zimmerman's Injury Details Only Prove One Thing

From the beginning of the Trayvon Martin tragedy, I haven't been as certain of what happened that night as a lot of other people seem to be. There are really only two people who know what happened that night, and one of them is dead. The other one thinks he knows, but he only knows his version of events. Now a medical report has been leaked to the press that says that George Zimmerman, who was arrested for the second-degree murder, suffered a "closed fracture" broken nose and two black eyes.

The Martin family has their suspicions about the medical report, which was made a day after the incident by Zimmerman's family doctor. They note that Zimmerman never went to the hospital or received medical treatment on the scene.

dog sheleterThere's vile, and then there's vile. A family of five in Parker County, Texas was arrested after authorities discovered they had 58 dogs in their small home who had been completely neglected. Thirty-one of them were discovered in crates coated with their own urine and feces, and the others were just running around without any access to food. The police were tipped off by a neighbor who could smell the decay and dishevelment from the street. Unfortunately, that's not the worst part.

In the center of the mess was an 18-month-old lying in a crib surrounded by his own waste.

Cops Taser Pregnant Woman 3 Times Over Driving Violation

Posted by Mary Fischer
on May 16, 2012 at 1:27 PM

pregnantWhen I heard about three police offers who wound up using a taser on a pregnant woman in Seattle, my first thought was that the story was some kind of a joke. Cops tasering a pregnant woman? In some sort of attempt to subdue her? For real?! You gotta be kidding me.

Apparently these three officers became enraged when they pulled Malaika Brooks over for a moving violation while driving her 11-year-old son to school, and she refused to sign the ticket they gave her because she didn't want to admit being guilty when she didn't feel she'd done anything wrong. But in the state of Washington, it's a crime to refuse to sign a ticket -- so they proceeded to arrest her. When Malaika then refused to get out of her car because she was in her last trimester of pregnancy, the cops must have felt really threatened -- because that's when they tased her on her leg, arm, and neck.

Walkers Who Text Deserve to Be Ticketed (VIDEO)

woman textingRemember the lady who walked off the pier, because she was so distracted by walking and texting? Yup, she had to be rescued from the choppy waters of Lake Michigan and soon became nationwide news. So ridiculous! Unfortunately, we all know that lady is not alone in her idiocy. Plenty of people continue to take to the streets while staring down at their smartphones, putting both their own and drivers' lives at risk.

So some authorities have had enough and are cracking down -- by ticketing texting walkers! Cops in Fort Lee, New Jersey (a highly trafficked town right by the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan) have been handing out $54 jaywalking tickets to 117 pedestrians who they've caught texting and jaywalking at the same time. And the police chief sounds pretty self-assured of his decision to keep it up.
