Did you hear about the Denver parents who made news for changing their baby in a Starbucks seating area after they found no changing table in the restroom? An employee reportedly offended them by asking them to clean up, the dad angrily poured his coffee on the floor in retaliation, and things somehow escalated to the point where police were called to calm everyone down.

The parents are still unhappy about the way they felt they were treated by the staff, but I'm mostly stuck on the fact that they thought it was their right to change a diaper in a public eating area. Sure, it would have been nice to find a changing table in the restroom, but ... well, come on. That's what diaper pads and a little parental ingenuity are for.

Dealing with an emergency diaper situation when you're away from home is no fun, and I'm pretty sure we've all been there. I'm sympathetic to the challenge, but I still have to draw the line at changing a poopy diaper in these 10 obnoxious locations.

Is it just me, or does it feel like disdain for Mother's Day and Father's Day has been growing in recent years? For what are supposed to be a couple of sweet days of celebration for some people in our life, there's been a storm of backlash, including this latest move from a school that has eliminated both days altogether and replaced them with Family Day. 

According to CTV, Astral Drive Elementary School in Nova Scotia has chosen to do away with any projects for (no cute hand-print cards!) or mention of either traditional holiday and instead now celebrates the International Day of Families, so non-traditional families are included. School officials said they did it to avoid children feeling isolated, which is lovely in theory ... but complete overkill in general. 

Today, my new neighbor came by looking for my hubby.

"He's sleeping," I told him.

"Oh, well. Would you mind sending him by when he wakes up? I just had a quick question," he said as he walked off.

"Do you need to know how to spell something? Because then it'd be worth waiting for him to wake up," I replied. "Otherwise, I may be able to help."

This is the kind of story that makes my blood boil. A woman in England gave birth in the PARKING LOT of a hospital after being turned away TWICE by the "medical professionals" in that very hospital. Are you kidding me?

The woman, 29-year-old Rabia Rizwan, had already given birth to two daughters, so you'd think the hospital staff might give her some credit when she told them she was in serious pain and was about to give birth. You'd think that, right? Well.

It seems like at least once a week, a story crops up in the news about a school trying to enforce a dress code that's a little out-of-control. Calling kindergartners' skirts out for being too short (when they're wearing tights!). Banning long hair on little boys.

They make me as crazy as any mom. But if I had to be honest, I feel for school administrators. Because for all of us parents just trying to apply common sense to how we dress our kids, there are the parents who go off the rails.

Take, for example, the mom who lets her 6-year-old wear high heels to school. I shouldn't have to tell you that's inappropriate, but apparently it has to be said.

Most of the time when people get makeovers, it's a happy thing. A boost to the self-esteem. A stellar moment bringing out a better you, in turn giving you more confidence. But when a Disney princess gets a makeover, some kids might shed tears, and parents, well, we do what's expected of us -- have an adult-sized temper tantrum.

I'm the one who loves Tattoo Barbie and Drag Queen Barbie, so I'm not going to have an issue with Brave's Merida showing a little more decolletage. But her makeover is more than just a little more skin.

Does it seem like everywhere you go these days, people want to give your kids something? From the bank to the grocery store, it seems someone is handing my kids something every time I turn around.

Oh, I know it's all well-intended, and much better than them being rude to my kids or even banning them altogether, it's just that ... I HATE all of this crap. It winds up left in my minivan, washed through my washer, or piled up somewhere in their bedrooms long after those first fleeting seconds of joy it brought.

I don't mean to be ungrateful. And yes, I could just decline their kindness, but that's easier said than done when the offer is made right in front of a toddler. Here are seven of the frequent freebies we get and why they irritate me so.

Should pregnant women smoke? Absolutely not. Research has shown time and again the harmful effects it can have on a developing baby. But should all pregnant women be given breath tests to make sure that they're not lighting up when no one is looking? The answer again -- absolutely not.

In Britain, however, that's just what they may be doing. According to the Telegraph, the country's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has recommended that all women be tested during prenatal appointments. Women who are found to have high carbon monoxide levels would be referred to programs to help them quit.
