When it comes to abortion laws, there's absolutely no consensus on what we all as Americans feel is appropriate. But in Arkansas this week, state lawmakers have decided they know what's best -- passing a law that prohibits abortion at 12 weeks of pregnancy, which is when a fetal heartbeat can typically be detected by an abdominal ultrasound. Even after Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat, called it "blatantly unconstitutional" and vetoed it. Now the state has what will be by far the country's most restrictive ban on abortion.

To be fair, it's a very hazy issue on which even people who consider themselves pro-choice find themselves grappling with. When should it simply be just too late to terminate a pregnancy? I'd argue that 12 weeks is far too early. Fetal heartbeat or not, there is a need for abortions to be legal that "late in the game."

Hold the presses! This conservative Republican chick agrees with John Kerry about something. While addressing a group of students in Berlin, the Secretary of State said that in America, “you have a right to be stupid if you want to be.”

That’s completely true. In the land of the free and the home of the brave, we protect people’s right to say the dumbest stuff ever. Thank goodness for our politicians, because sometimes they really should think before they speak.

In honor of John Kerry, here’s a list of some dumb things that our elected officials have said recently:

Okay, there's this buzzword floating around a lot these days. Maybe you've heard it? Sequester. As in, "Who will suffer the most from the sequester?" Or, "Where will the sequester cuts hurt your community?" Or, "Should we panic over the sequester, and if so, how soon? Today? Yesterday?"

You may be wondering, WHAT THE HELL IS THE SEQUESTER? So you Google that, and you get lots of words. Words with no pictures, and no mention of the Oscars, either, so that's super boring. But wait! "Robert Pattinson" is here to explain to you what the sequester is and how it could affect you.

One of President Obama's proposals in last night's State of the Union address must have made parents of toddlers sit up and listen (if they were still awake by then). Obama wants to expand preschool opportunities for four-year-olds. This would include providing high-quality preschool for all low-income and moderate-income families, and expanding programs for middle-income families. The proposal would also incentivize full-day kindergarten.

But at a time when budgets are already tight and we're cutting every government program that isn't working, should we expand preschool? Does preschool really "work" -- and what do we really expect preschool do to, anyway?

Last month, when Hillary Clinton suffered unfortunate health setbacks, it was obvious the buzz would start from both sides of the aisle ... Was this a sign she wouldn't be in fighting form to shoot for a second bid for the presidency come 2016? Was this a sign her political career was on the brink of OVER? Geeze, liberals hoped not! Gosh, conservatives hoped so!

Well, now, it's looking like the former have more reason to be whooping and cheering, because already two super PACs have been launched anticipating her campaign. The first group, HillaryClintonSuperPAC, was formed by Iowa resident Nigel Wallace. And "Ready for Hillary" filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday. It's described as "a small coalition of supporters of Clinton and President Barack Obama, ready and waiting to aid Clinton in a future campaign." Awwwesome! What's more, Hil herself isn't completely denying a run ...

In the lead-up to President Obama's second inauguration, the media's taking a microscope to his approval rating. According to a New York Times/CBS News poll released today, 51 percent of just about 1K Americans surveyed between January 11-15 approve of how the prez is handling his job. By comparison, 41 percent disapprove. So, okay ... Doesn't sound necessarily very good or very bad, right?

But to figure out where our POTUS really stands, it helps to compare these approval numbers next to other presidents' as they were entering their second-term. Not to mention considering the circumstances that may be contributing to his "progress report," so to speak ...

More than likely, you were thinking the Whole Foods CEO was a crunchy hippie type who plays a few rounds of golf with Obama and other liberal politicians on occasion while sipping green juice and eating a vegan snack. But the truth is that the man who holds that gig, John Mackey, vehemently opposes Obamacare and doesn't accept the scientific consensus behind climate change. I know, right?! What the heck? Neither of those characteristics -- nor plenty of the CEO's other traits, like his affinity for Ayn Rand -- really add up to the image most of us have of someone running the top organic grocer in the country.

I could understand why some Whole Foods customers might be horrified by Mackey's politics and may even consider them enough to stop shopping there. But I can be cool with his opposing views -- mostly because we have common, important ground.

On Wednesday, President Obama surrounded himself with cute kids to make a speech about gun control and how guns that hold more than 10 bullets are evil, and anyone that says otherwise obviously hates children. And puppies. Then he signed an executive order that is totally going to prevent bad people from doing bad things. He also said that any pundit that disagrees with him is doing so for “monetary gain.”

Or something like that. He didn’t specifically mention puppies, but he did imply that people who do not see the wisdom in his 23-point executive order to limit gun violence in America must not care about the children. It’s always about the children.

Joe Biden says a lot of dumb things. It’s like he doesn’t even think before the words tumble out of his mouth, like when he asked the guy in the wheelchair to stand up, or mentioned that you can’t even go into a 7-Eleven without an Indian accent these days. He’s endlessly entertaining -- at least until you realize he’s second in line for the presidency. That’s another one of his bloopers, by the way ... he’s actually first in line. The Speaker of the House is second.

Anyway. Good ol’ Joe spoke to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence, and hinted that the president might sign an executive order to combat gun violence. Given the administration’s policy toward gun rights, the insinuation seems to be that Obama is considering banning guns by executive order.

You'd have to be living under a rock right now not to know that we're all at risk of falling off the fiscal cliff. Even Starbucks is P.O.-ed about it and encouraging politicians to "come together" on the conflict. But, if they don't, a whole bevy of issues may surface, including the return of the so-called "marriage penalty!"

Sounds scary, right? Like the government might beat down your door and make you fork over more dough just for being hitched?! Well, not quite. Here's the 101 on the potential tax upset for wed couples ...
