Last Friday, it was announced that three Chicago teens accused of gang-raping a 12-year-old girl at gunpoint will face charges as adults. Scandale Fritz, 16, Kenneth Brown, 15, and Justin Applewhite, 16, are each are being held on $900,000 bail. Each of the teens is facing one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, based on the events that allegedly took place on December 15.

As it turns out, the boys' desire to document the attack -- and, horribly, share it on Facebook -- may be exactly the evidence that will be needed to put them behind bars.

Canadian singer Alexis Normand tweeted that she is 'embarrassed and deeply sorry' for the most cringeworthy rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ever yesterday at a junior hockey game. I guess that's really the only thing you can say after a performance like that. It's brutal to watch. Poor thing. She is Canadian after all. Even many American singers have a hard time getting through it flawlessly, though I will never truly understand why, as the lyrics aren't that hard to memorize.

To make things even worse (if that's possible), when Normand forgot some of the words, she started to make them up ... prompting laughs from the American and Canadian hockey players in the 2013 Memorial Cup.

But then, something pretty amazing happens, the kind of thing that exemplifies what America is all about.

Yeah, so there's really no polite way to put this, so I'll just come right out and say it. There's poop in public pools. Did you hear me? Every time you take the kids to a public pool -- odds are good they're swimming around with feces in the water.

Excuse me for a second -- I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Last summer, researchers from the CDC found E. coli bacteria in 58 percent of the pools they tested. Yep, you guessed it, E. coli comes from the human gut -- and poop.

And the poop that's found in pools doesn't necessarily come from someone pooping in the pool.

Horrific details are still trickling out about the decade-long captivity endured by Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight allegedly at the hands of Ariel Castro in his house of horrors. The new details are so depraved that it will make your heart ache for these girls even more than it already does. Sources say that there is a reason the only photo of the women after their rescue is of Amanda Berry, who was seen in the hospital with her sister and daughter born into captivity, Jocelyn. Berry apparently had "favored" status with Castro and didn't suffer as much of the beatings and torture that Castro allegedly doled out to the other women. Which isn't to say her time in the house was anything less than horrific -- she reportedly gave birth to Jocelyn without medical care in a small children's wading pool. But new details show that the house was truly a house of torture -- and that the women were held like "prisoners of war."

A judge has decided that one 14-year-old girl in Jacksonville, Florida is not fit for any of the schools in that county. Not because she's a genius. And not because she has disabilities. But because she's allegedly an inveterate bully. The eighth grader allegedly lured classmate Aria Jewett off school grounds and then attacked her while 30 students stood around watching. The fight was videotaped. Aria suffered a fractured skull. The attacker girl was arrested. Aria's parents asked for an injunction to keep the girl out of Aria's school but the judgment surprised even them. The judge declared that the girl was too much of a danger for her to be in any of the public schools in the entire county.

If you've been following the sad story of Lana Leigh Bailey, the 18-month-old baby who went missing in Kansas last week, the news you least wanted to hear is in. Cops have found a baby's body, and they think it's the missing Kansas girl. Considering police had already charged 27-year-old Kyle Flack with killing Lana as well as her mother and two other adults, it was only a matter of time.

The discovery means the case can move forward in court.

No matter who you are or where you live, it's impossible to avoid hearing the developing story out of Cleveland, Ohio about the kidnapping of three young women and the horrific torture they endured over the past decade. The latest detail to emerge from the unfolding case: DNA tests have confirmed that alleged kidnapper Ariel Castro is the father of captive Amanda Berry's 6-year-old daughter, who was held along with her mother, as well as victims Michelle Knight and Gina Dejesus.

It's not exactly a surprise. But that doesn't make it any less nightmarish and important to know for certain.

You know that thing they keep saying on Game of Thrones: "For the night is dark and full of terrors"? Swap "night" with "Internet" and you've got about the only explanation I can come up with for the existence of the unbelievably offensive "F'N Wook" Facebook page that's devoted to degrading female members of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Thanks to U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, who fired off a letter to the Secretary of Defense alone with top military brass, the page has been taken down -- but not before it racked up an astounding 10,000 likes for what Speier describes as a "culture of misogyny and sexual harassment."  Worse, it appears the F'N Wook page has been on the Marines' radar for three years.
