Did you see what happened to college basketball player Kevin Ware? I hope you didn't -- it's pretty gruesome. He was playing for Louisville in the Midwestern Regional final against Duke when he made a hard landing on his feet and broke his leg in two different places. But he didn't just break his leg -- his fractured right tibia broke clear through his skin. Oh noes, when we see bones! It just hurts to watch.

Even his teammates couldn't take it. In the video (which maybe you don't want to watch), you see them all just curl up into fetal position when they see what happened to Ware. Some of them burst into tears. It's exactly how you would want your friends to react to an accident like that. But Ware found the strength to rally them. Horrific injury and all, he was still yelling from the sidelines, "Win the game, win the game!"

If you're a lover of tuna sandwiches who drives a new Nissan, sorry to say, but this is NOT your week. The car company has issued a recall for five 2013 model year vehicles, including the Altima and Sentra, because the front passenger airbag may not deploy in a crash, the automaker has told U.S. regulators. Then the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) chimed in to note the issue has to do with faulty sensors being unable to detect whether someone is sitting in the front passenger seat and whether the occupant is a child or small adult who might be injured by the bag.

Eeesh! Thank goodness Nissan and the NHTSA are now aware of this issue ... Airbags are a really big deal to most drivers. It's a major safety feature we really can't imagine driving without, and we are always crossing our fingers we can depend on them in the worst case scenario.

The specifics on the recall ...

Moms are buzzing today about an opinion piece on gun control that was posted on the Scary Mommy website.

    In it, blogger Kiran writes:

[Our Founding Fathers] never imagined gang wars. They never saw the technology that could create guns that could kill so many people so quickly. They never saw an AK-47 blow someone’s head off. They never imagined the number of civilian deaths that would take place and grow each year on American soil.

I will tell you one thing. They never imagined Columbine. They never imagined Newtown.

We posted a link to the piece it on our Moms Matter Facebook page and got lots of impassioned responses. Check out a few of them after the jump, and leave your own thoughts in the comments.

Looking for a last-minute couples Halloween costume? Going to a party where you know the people attending will have a sense of humor and don't mind a little bit of crass classlessness? Want to really scare 'em, too? Have we got the solution for you! Remember back in the spring when Bobby Petrino, the ex-head football coach at the University of Arkansas, had a fling with a hot 25-year-old named Jessica Dorrell -- then got fired for it?

And remember how everyone got wind of this whole affair because the idiot got into a motorcycle accident with Jessica and the Internet proceeded to go nuts? This whole story has a point, I promise. Well, check out this costume idea that an extremely creative couple thought of to get folks at said Halloween party talking (and screaming):

It's been a little over a year since Natalie Portman gave birth to little Aleph and about two since the web has really thought about the actress in "that way." Well, the respect-a-new-mom break is over and the brigade of oglers who use terms like "MILF" were unleashed tonight when the cameras at the Texas vs. Baylor game panned on Ms. Portman in all her low-cut lace top glory. Um, even my eyes boinked out a little when I took a glimpse. Hello, mama Natalie! Looking gorgeous to the max.

Check out the reactions Portman was getting on the web tonight. Let's just say everyone stopped talking about football and Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender (who were also reportedly at the UT game) for a good long while to talk about (and drool over) OHMYGOD Natalie.

Jerry Sandusky arriving for sentencingThe day has finally come: Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was sentenced Tuesday morning to 30 to 60 years in prison for doing disgusting, terrible things to young, innocent boys. Though it means that the 68-year-old would die in prison, my initial thought was: That's it? You could potentially only get 30 years of prison time even though you're guilty on 45 counts of child abuse? He was actually facing up to 400 years behind bars, but if there's a silver lining, it's that he can serve no less than 30 years. At least he'll never be free.

This guy, a jury decided, had abused 10 young disadvantaged boys. He used his position of authority at Penn State and his charity, the Second Mile, to get close to his victims. And even with evidence and testimony against him, he remained defiant. I'm sure 30 years seem like nothing compared to what he's taken away from these boys.

Triforce FTW!If you've ever wondered why Ohio State University's marching band is called "TBDBITL," or The Best Damn Band in the Land, wonder no more. This is the most awesome marching band performance I've ever seen this week, this month, perhaps in my entire life?

For anyone who's loved video games, from The Legend of Zelda (my personal fave) to Tetris to Halo (yes, Halo!), you'll soon see why this performance is so mind-blowing. The complex choreography and awesome soundtrak lead to animating some of these beloved characters in a way you've probably never seen before.

The band graced us with this routine during the halftime performance when OSU took on Nebraska on October 6, 2012. Thank god for the Internet, or else you would have missed out on this incredible show. Nine minutes later and your life will truly be changed for the better.

There are so many things I love about this video. College football. Big marching band. Psy's "Gangnam Style." Yes, it seems like there have been hundreds of variations of this song, and people have been playing it incessantly. You could even argue that it's getting a little old. (What?? You wouldn't dare!) But you have to see this version, it's totally worth it ... well, at least tune in to around the 1:27 mark, where the band gets down with some really impressive choreography.

Ohio University's band, the Marching 110, performed this history-making YouTube hit on Saturday during halftime at a game against Norfolk State. And this isn't their first hit ... hopefully you've seen their version of "Party Rock Anthem"? I'm so cool I'll even put that video in for you as well. Since googling it would simply take far too much time and effort. Check 'em out!

You know what makes me feel better when days are gray and dreary and stormy, like this one (at least that's how it is in New York right now)? Listening to Psy and "Gangnam Style." No wonder the song and video are such a hit -- it's so happy, upbeat, and silly. And it's also no wonder that people are making their own versions of "Gangnam Style" and posting them on YouTube.

I've seen the Rosh Hashanah version and the military version and even the wedding version, but the best sports version came out a few weeks ago, and it's equally wonderful. The University of Oregon Duck rocked it, with the help of some cheerleaders, Bigfoot, a watermelon ... yeah, it's that random and fantastic.

Whenever a story makes the headlines, folks across this great country of ours are forced to ask an inevitable question: When will the movie come out? Believe it or not, this question actually applies to Joe Paterno and the scandal at Penn State, and the potential film is garnering even more press because a famous actor has just put his hat into the ring as the guy who could pull off playing Paterno: Al Pacino.

From a purely cinematic perspective -- Al could certainly pull this off. They have a similar look and, with some prosthesis and a large pair of sunglasses, it may be a little bit eerie how perfect Pacino could be for the role. (Though I hate to say it, but Joe Pesci was the first actor who came to my mind when I initially read this report.)

But of course the other perspective begs the question: Is it too soon to even be talking about this?
