I love people watching. I can do it anywhere. In the mall. At the park. But I have to admit, some of the best people watching moments come right in my house -- while I'm watching a baseball game. And the wife who doused her husband with her beer in the middle of the Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets game this weekend didn't disappoint.

Hubby saw Cubs pitcher Travis Wood get a hold of a ball and send it barrelling at the bleachers -- right where he was sitting with his beloved. So he jumps up -- probably to snag the thing but also to save his wife's hide -- and ends up knocking his wife's beer all over her in the process. So what did she do? What do you THINK she did? Just watch:

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees may be as old as baseball itself. New York Yankees fans tend to hate the Neil Diamond song "Sweet Caroline" because of its association with all things Red Sox. But not last night. In an amazing show of solidarity, the rival team, the team I grew up calling the "Evil Empire," played that song during the game and the result is moving.

As someone who has lived close to 20 years in Boston, I have no idea how it got started, but I know it was there when I arrived and seemed to be showing no signs of slowing when I left. It's an old rivalry. Time-honored and very real (just try wearing a Yankees cap at Fenway if you don't believe me). But last night, they set it all aside. See below:

Dear Lady Who Cut Me Off in the Carpool Lane,

Seriously? What is the matter with you? I was waiting in that line for nearly half an hour and you thought you would just sidle your way in? There's this unwritten rule about lines that says: Wait at the end when you arrive. Also, there's a rule about cutting people off that says: Don't cut off people you will see at tomorrow's PTA meeting.

Did it not dawn on you how easily I could find out who you are? It's not like you did this on the highway ... we were going to the same place. I saw your kids get into your minivan, as you were a mere five feet in front of me!

Also, you have stickers of your entire family on your back windshield (which already makes me dislike you), so it wasn't like I needed to be David Caruso to put the pieces together.

It doesn't really matter if you know or care who Derek Jeter is (New York Yankee baseball player, fyi), all you really need to know is that he's fat. Yup, the formerly hunky super fit athlete, 38, who has dated the likes of Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Minka Kelly, and Rachel Uchitel (just to name a few) has packed on the pounds -- and the press and twitterverse are giving him a hard time about his weight gain.

It all started when the New York Post ran this cover photo (right) with the caption "Derek Eater: Rehabbing Jeter takes fork in the road to recovery" and posted a slew of fat pictures of Jeter on its website.

And then the "Derek Eater" comedians came out of the woodwork. There's a Fat Derek Jeter Meme and the twitterverse took off with jokes like ...

Who could possibly throw off Alex Rodriguez's game? There were the Yankees Saturday night, locked in a playoff battle to the finish with Detroit. A-Rod's teammates were struggling to come out from behind. And what was A-Rod doing? FLIRTING! Writing his name on baseballs and getting the ball boy to throw them out to some ladies who caught his eye in the crowd. And then one sent back her phone number to Alex. And it went on until Derek Jeter broke his ankle in the 12th inning.

So now the world is wondering who could possibly be so spectacularly hot, hot enough to distract Alex from the playoffs. Who? None other than model and bikini designer Kyna Treacy.

Sunday was definitely a tough day for the New York Yankees, as player Derek Jeter fractured his ankle in the middle of the 12th inning in their playoff game against the Detroit Tigers, and is now out for the rest of the post-season.

And even though it was obvious that he tried his best to disguise the excruciating pain he was in after snapping his ankle while trying to catch a grounder, he couldn't hide the huge grimace on his face as he laid there in the dirt trying to come to terms with what had just happened.

Stephanee, Gehrig & Pat NeshekSome incredibly heartwrenching news out of the sports world today. You may not care that the Oakland Athletics finished a rather miraculous run to clinch their division, but there's one member of the team with a lot more on his mind than baseball: Pitcher Pat Neshek's baby boy tragically passed away only 23 hours after he was born.

I can't even begin to imagine what Pat his wife Stephanee Neshek are going through. On Pat's Twitter account, we shared in his joy when he first announced the birth of his son, but suddenly he wrote how they lost him not even a day later.

Such a horrible personal story for a team that has just beaten all the odds. It goes to show there's so much more to life than these games, and this loss gives all fans and those involved a cold, harsh, seemingly unnecessary dose of reality. We can only hope that Pat's family, friends, fans, and teammates can rally around them and help them heal from their insurmountable loss.

What do you do when your child gets hurt while doing the thing he or she loves the most? How do you react when your child’s life is altered forever in a single moment of complete random bad luck?

Earlier this summer a 13-year-old pitcher, Ryan Steen, took a line drive hit to the eye during a baseball game that left him completely blind in his left eye.

It's okay, Brett, you get to make this speech a dozen more timesWe have a vision of male athletes being these strong, tough, buff, ridiculously manly badasses. Their job is to win and they're supposed to take no prisoners. They don't have time to deal with that tiny little other aspect of life called emotion. Please.

(You knew there was a "but" coming.) But, there are times when athletes break this stereotype and help us to remember that they're just human beings too. They're prone to sadness, anger, frustration, and yes, even tears. There's something about seeing an athlete who's usually so stoic and tough break down and show his vulnerability. At times it can be really sweet!

So we rounded up some of the best videos that feature athletes crying like babies. Hey, I mean, why not. Enjoy! And give the big tough man in your life a hug while you're at it.

This is probably going to be the most bizarre sports news you'll see all day. Yunel Escobar, who plays shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays, apparently wrote, "tu ere maricon" [sic], which translates to "you are a f**got" on his eye black during a recent. Yeah. So that happened. See that photo? (Sorry, it's a little blurry.) A collective WTF?? is definitely in order.

It makes absolutely no sense. Some have suggested that this was a prank by the clubhouse -- if that's the case, talk about a prank gone terribly wrong. However, that seemed to be a short-term rumor, since news has come out that Escobar has been suspended for three games without pay. Thank goodness! I actually wish the suspension were a bit longer.
