Even non-baseball fans know Derek Jeter is retiring. People love the guy, and not just Yankee fans. So if you happen to find yourself at Yankee stadium during one of his final games, you are witnessing a part of history. And if you happen to catch one of Jeter's foul balls, you are holding a piece of historical gold.

One father at the game did just that -- he caught Jeter's foul ball during the seventh inning of the Yankees versus Blue Jays game at Yankee stadium Friday night. He was there with his family. Everyone was so excited! Pictures were taken by Mom. He then gave the ball to his young daughter who looked to be about 5 years old. And then she threw the ball back onto the field. Oh, yes she did. Just watch!

The Yankees experienced a devastating loss far greater than anything on the ball field. Carlos Beltran and his family are mourning the loss of their unborn son. Beltran's wife Jessica had a miscarriage and Carlos has decided to take a leave of absence from his job as a Yankee.

Beltran's decision put his family first, and that is very honorable. The Beltrans have already lost two babies, both by miscarriage, before. A truly heartbreaking thing for a family to go through.

Okay, okay, say what you will about Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees in general -- especially if you're a Boston Red Sox fan -- but you have to admit, this latest commercial in Jeter's honor in a new Jordan Brand commercial is pretty fantastic. A bunch of really famous people, from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani to Jay Z to Michael Jordan to Tiger Woods, gives Derek Jeter a hat tip in anticipation of his last All-Star Game as a player. Ex-teammates and "Core Four" members Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and Jorge Posada make an appearance as well. So does Billy Crystal.

Even Red Sox fans and New York Mets players (and their mascot) with their faces blurred were in on the commercial.

You can't help but respect the man who's played Major League Baseball for the past two decades. The full-length commercial will play on Tuesday night before Jeter goes to bat during the All-Star Game.

You know who's full of surprises? Curtis Jackson, aka rapper 50 Cent, that's who. For one thing, he's a surprisingly savvy life coach who gives advice like making a vision board with your partner in order to reveal what doesn't overlap ("The things that end up on your vision board that aren't in hers are the things that she has to accept. And the things that she has that you don't are the things that you have to make a compromise with"). He's written a number of books, including The 50th Law, "an entertaining analysis of the mechanics of individualistic power." He's also the worst ceremonial pitcher in the history of baseball.

Okay, maybe he's not the WORST, but the video evidence of 50 Cent's ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets v Pittsburgh Pirates game on Tuesday night is nearly unbelievable in its hilarity. I mean, my 6-year-old can throw a better pitch than 50 Cent. A blindfolded, tranquilized, quadriplegic alpaca could throw a better pitch than 50 Cent.

So it seems after the 2014 baseball season, Yankees star Derek Jeter is retiring. Not entirely surprising, and it seems he's going out the way that he wants to. And he actually has a Facebook page and wrote:

"Really, it was months ago when I realized that this season would likely be my last. As I came to this conclusion and shared it with my friends and family, they all told me to hold off saying anything until I was absolutely 100% sure. And the thing is, I could not be more sure."

Pretty crazy, right? He could have created an entire media circus surrounding the announcement of his retirement, yet he opted to do so on Facebook. Gotta give kudos to the guy for that. He's retiring after an illustrious career on his terms.

Just call her Cupid! Ellen DeGeneres played host to another surprise proposal and this one may be her best yet. Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen was a guest on Wednesday's show to celebrate being named National League MVP. But he had an ulterior motive for the TV appearance. His girlfriend of four years Maria was in the audience and got the shock of her life -- and quite honestly, it's the sweetest we've ever seen.

One of the good rules to live by in life right up there with don't stick your wet fingers in electrical outlets and don't throw rocks on fire at animals is don't be mean to children. They are our world's innocents and the sunflowery Earth knows there isn't a lot of innocence around these days. Which is why it really gets my goat that this big meanie of a woman steals a baseball right out of the hands of a little girl.

The ball was reportedly meant for this little ponytailed cutie. Arizona Diamondbacks' Juan Miranda pitched it to her after it went foul at Houston's Minute Maid field. She had it in her arms when this woman (who resembles Kris Jenner) snatches it out of her arms with a slightly maniacal look on her face. Watch it and see.

Is Derek Jeter engaged?! Rumors are swirling that the handsome Yankees shortstop popped the question to girlfriend Hannah Davis, who was spotted wearing a ginormous diamond ring on her engagement finger. An engagement ring expert even confirmed -- yep! -- it's an engagement ring. But neither Jeter or Davis is talking. Jeter is quite the ladies' man -- he's dated everyone from Jessica Alba to Mariah Carey to Minka Kelly -- but he is respected for keeping his trap shut about it. Reportedly, Hannah has been wearing the sparkler since July (and we're just noticing??). Here are seven things you might want to know about the potential future Mrs. Jeter.

Singer Carly Rae Jepsen may have thrown the worst celebrity first pitch in baseball history Sunday night at a Tampa Bay Rays home game. Her wind up and release somehow failed and she ended up flinging the ball really hard into the ground. It was hilarious and awkward, and the video has -- predictably -- gone viral as a result.

Some celebrities would be indignant and defensive or even angry, but Jepsen played it off adorably. First she buried her face in her hands and then she laughed and laughed.

Later, she even joked about herself. I'd say Jepsen is the very definition of a good sport. See below:

Baseball legend Joe Torre made a lot of great catches in his career. However, his daughter, Christina Torre, 44, today totally upstaged any of his plays with a catch of her own that was simply remarkable.

According to WBAC, she was biking through Brooklyn this morning when she happened to see a boy dangling from an apartment building. He was out on a second story fire escape when he fell to a store awning below. Then suddenly, as she was calling 911,  he just dropped ... right into Torres' arms. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
