Another day, another lying sports star and a "love child", to boot. Football great Dan Marino -- "the greatest quarterback never to win a Super Bowl" -- fathered a child in 2005 with a CBS employee named Donna Savattere, a then-35-year-old production assistant at CBS Sports. He then paid her millions of dollars to keep quiet.
Not a bad gig for Savattere, right? Marino's biggest mistake, of course, was in not telling his wife. These things ALWAYS come out. It's a CHILD for god's sake. They aren't very easy to hide.
Apparently Marino and Savattere agreed to keep it quiet. In a statement he gave to the New York Post, he said:
This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then. We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.
What a lie.
The "mutual agreement" was based on money, plain and simple. His mistress was a 35-year-old ASSISTANT. Was she really going to turn down millions of dollars and the chance to never have to work again? I think not.
As for "protecting all parties," the truth is the only person Marino was protecting was himself. He didn't want his wife to know. Period. End of story.
Now his wife knows in the worst way possible. As a mom and wife, I feel for Marino's wife to whom he has been married for 28 years. She has raised six kids with him and this is how he repays her? Even worse, though, is how he treated the child.
You can't pay someone to be quiet about a kid. Did he learn nothing from Arnold Schwarzenegger? The whole thing is just despicable. If he had come out in 2005 and just admitted it, people would be a lot more forgiving than they will be now. The hiding a child and the lying is what will be his downfall.
Why are men so dumb in these situations? He looks so much worse now. Did he really think he would get away with it? The family man who secretly fathered a love child is a cliche for a reason. Get a clue, dude.

That is sooooo wierd!! I just spoke to his wife yesterday- My company manages the association that they live in and they were calling in to make their maintenance payment- wierd!!
The writer needs to get her story straight. The wife did know about the child and has all along. The parties kept it quiet to protect all the children, the one that was the "love" child and the six Marino and his wife have together (one of which has autism).
I disagree with this story 100000% !!! He and the woman kept it a secret to PROTECT THEIR AND HIS OTHER CHILDREN!!! My GOD!!! I know it's hard to comprehend, but famous people deserve a little privacy too, they do not need to disclose every single thing to the media... Let them all be, for heaven's sake! All parties involved were aware of it, which makes this an OLD story., Move along.
